Hullo

By Darcune, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm new to the forum here, but I've been playing Star Wars Edge for some time now, and I've really enjoyed it so far.

So umm... Hi.

Anyways, I had a few questions regarding some issues that arose with our game the last few sessions.

1. When resolving a combat check, be it any kind (Ranged (Heavy or Light), Gunnery, Melee, Brawl, or Lightsaber,) successes should always count as extra damage, right?

Ex: My GM claimed that Melee and Brawl did not benefit from this, and only did damage equal to the bonus of the weapon wielded + Brawn rating.

2. The books are very clear that the Talent Dedication and the Force Power Enhance may only advance Attributes to a maximum of six. The Cybernetic enhancements have a specific line that allows the attribute to be enhanced to seven, making it the only enhancement I've found that does so.

There is however an enhancement that may be applied to armor known as the Strength Enhancing System (Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook, p. 194). The description of this upgrade states: "Increases wearer's Brawn by one point while wearing this armor. This does not increase soak or wound threshold."

This particular upgrade does not say that it can increase brawn beyond the normal limit, nor does it say that it can't.

How should it be interpreted?

Finally, there is a statement in the book regarding the Assist Maneuver. In combat, players may assist another player, adding one boost die to that player's next check. The description states that more than one boost die may be added, but it's up to the GM's discretion as to how many boosts may be gained this way (Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook, p. 201.)

My question is whether the Assist Maneuver may be performed out of combat.

Ex: The players are tasked with neutralizing an Anti-Aircraft emplacement in a forest clearing. They discover multiple types of explosives and the GM states that these explosives may be combined into a bomb powerful enough to do the job, but it requires two Hard Mechanics checks to do so. Three of the players have mechanics, but they are all relatively equal in ability.

Can one player take the lead, while the other two Assist him, providing two Boost die on the roll?

Thank you for your consideration.

1. Yes

2. Your call.

3. Yes, subject to your call.

PS

Hello

1. You are right, your GM is wrong.

2. I treat the enhancement as a cybernetic and would allow it to boost brawn to 7. I would disallow it being used with another cybernetic to get to eight. Hard rule = max is 6 / max with cybernetics is 7.

3. Yes.

And welcome!

I agree with 2P51 and Dante. And also be welcome :D

Um, hey.

I do not agree with anyone here. They are all wrong, even Joseph! :)

Good luck with your game, and welcome.

Hello!

Hello and let me point out that everyone that have answered the questions are wrong.

"what's that?! They are right? Impossible!"

Well, actually yes they are right.

1 You're right

2 GM call

3 Yes, also GM call if it applies to one particular check. Most checks could be assisted, but some might be hard to explain.

Cooking, would be a check that shouldn't be possible to assist, actually it should give extra red dice, you know the saying

" the more chefs the worse soup" (but that's a literal translation of a Swedish proverb, the English counterpart is ofc "too many chefs spoil the soup") :P

As an addition to the excellent answers, I'll address one additional point on question 3:

There is such a thing as "Skilled Assistance." It's in the first chapter. Basically, when making such a check, you get your two best characters together: one with the best relevant Characteristic, the other with the best Skill rank. Combine them and there's your skill pool. If the character doing the assisting has a worse/identical skill rank & characteristic, then add a Boost die to the check instead.

For some jobs, like others have said, multiple people might be able to add multiple Boost dice, but yeah it needs to be believable. You can only have so many people standing over you holding a flashlight before they're just in the way :)

@ away, apparently you have never worked for the government, you can never have too many helpers or even foremen!!:D
