Ideas for YT-1300 without Transport Cards

By ficklegreendice, in X-Wing

EDIT: great, ms-titled the thread. I know C3POs in the other huge ship, so don't mention it and just roll with it :P

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about trying to get my hands on the Yt-1300 expansion (though, given my success, it seems to be the Holy Grail of X-wing until the reprints come out) until I realized I have zero interest in spending money on Huge Ships for some cards :(

Given that Fat Falcons are synonymous with "competitive" and "C3PO," I was wondering if there was any point to pursuing the ship. I really want Nyannyan-what's-his-face GreenStraights for the upcoming Yt-2400 and Engine Upgrade for obvious reasons, but I can't really justify a purchase of even $20 discounted for a pretty ship that would essentially only have nostalgic value.

So,

1.) how would you guys build a YT-1300 without access to the Tantive upgrade cards? Would you rely on Chewbacca (crew) instead for fat builds?

2.) Are fat builds even necessary to make the freighter viable?

3.) I don't think I'd ever run the [Outer-rim] smuggler, but how's Lando? I do like me some action efficiency, and I'd like a reason to field an X or B instead of a Z mini-swarm (already set one up for Dash and basically every rebel list I make is two 31 point elite pilots with 3 bandits <_<) but I don't find them worth it without action efficiency thanks to my consistency horrible luck.

remember, the only restrictions are the bundled Huge-Ship upgrades (R2-D2 crew, C3PO, and Han + Leia I guess though no one uses them)

Lando with Chewbacca, Gunner, Millennium Falcon title and Engine Upgrade. That's basically what people were running before the Tantive IV was released.*

*Actually, people ran the Han Shoots First build, which is Han with Marksmanship, Chewbacca, title and Engine Upgrade. But you said you don't want to run "the smuggler," so I gave you a Lando build that might have been seen prior to May 2014.

That's one fat Lando :o Do you have the name of the list so I could look up what else was run with him?

Oh, sorry. I meant the "Outer-rim Smuggler," specifically. He just seems...sad.

I can see how that would be confusing in hindsight :rolleyes:

But yes, feel free to toss me new or previously solid ideas with Han Solo. I know he gets a rep for being really powerful, but for my part I place the blame more on the defensive utility of specific upgrades than his iconic ability to shoot first (or have a worse version of a target-lock)

I am going to try Chewie with Jan and recon tonight also predator and maybe tactical jammer. I'll let you know how it goes. I have a few combinations of support ships with him. A B with HLC hiding behind him getting an extra greed die is tempting.

The Falcon is still a strong ship without the droids. Chewy more so than Lando; DtF can let him tank for the rest of the squad or you can do the Predator/Gunner thing so he puts out more hurt. Or you can go Han with two wookies as crew (gunner/chewy), that works well too. C3PO wasn't necessary for the Falcon to be good, it just made it ridiculous.

I think Chewie / Jan will get much more play now thanks to Worlds than fortress.

And this I have no problem with

Seems like a lot of good ideas rolling in. I'm especially taken by the Chewie + DTF + Jan as a nice support ship since no one likes shooting at Chewie :P

Speaking of Jan, I was wondering if I could get Kyle out of the aces box and actually onto a ship. Lando seems to provide a nice excuse what with an EPT (PTL) and Green Maneuvers being all the rage for him.

Problem is he's sitting on a 55 point price tag with PTL, Kyle, Title, and Engine plus I'd probably want to bump him up to 56 to re-enact the space battle in Return of the Jedi (or just to open up his dial a bit :)). A Kyle + Jan tag team might also be fun (57 points, though) but I feel it's a bit too C3POish only less efficient.

This Fat Chewie build has served me well:

Chewbacca

++ Millennium Falcon

++ Push the Limit

++ Nien Nunb

++ Kyle Katarn

Biggs

Blue Squadron Pilot

++B-wing/E2

++ Jan Ors

Lets Biggs evade until he's cleared, then Chewbacca gets two evade tokens and a focus or lock each turn. If you're facing dodgers that can avoid Biggs, just give all the evades to Chewie from the start.

Chewbacca + Predator + Gunner + Millennium Falcon

2 x Blue Squadron + Advanced Sensors

Han Solo + Marksmanship + Gunner + Chewbacca

2 x Rookie Pilots

Both used widely before the Tantive unleashed the protocol droid from hell! :lol:

My friends had some success with;

chewie

Title

Push the limit

Nein nub(?)

Weapons engineer

Engine upgrade

He runs that alongside Dutch in his y wing and the action economy is phenomenal. I suppose lando would work just as well and improve in the action economy, but chewie is such a tough nut to crack

Named YT-1300 - PTL, Title, RecSpec, Jan (crew). 55 pts, Jan's ability is transferable and the focus could be used for Offense or Defence.
