The important thing is ABOUT a minute. It is not a hard number. but when you consider you have about a minute many things make more sense. Like movement where you can cover significant distances and still do an action.

Fulcrum, I heartily believe, is Chuck, Sarah, Casey, and, perhaps, but not for certain, Morgan. This is, of course, after they defeated Fulcrum. But then they restarted it themselves.

I have never had a round take less than a minute. You guys must have some really good players at your table. For my guys a round can go on for 15-30 minutes, as they mull over their decisions, and talk about crap. Then building the dice pool, then interpreting it, and then I have to describe the actions, I can not see how this all can take just a minute or even less. You guys must fly through your combat and other stuff...

That said, I like your Ewok, we need force sensitive Ewoks in the game.

Like mentioned in the beginning of the thread, I look at it like the way measurements are done with distance...it's interpreted as needed. So yeah, the Rule of Cool.

To answer as others have:

1) Rule of Cool - if it looks good on screen - go with it.

2) Think of rounds like a page in a comic book, and a single panel is a PCs/NPCs turn in an initiative slot.

The issue with treating Slicing as if it's an analogue of real world hacking is that so many things in the Star Wars setting completely shoot down any pretence that it is. Some people make assumptions about Wi-Fi and so forth, but look at them - they're having interstellar conversations in real time - that is simply not electromagnetic communications. And once you throw that out, you can throw out most of your assumptions about "wireless" hacking.

The issue with treating Slicing as if it's an analogue of real world hacking is that so many things in the Star Wars setting completely shoot down any pretence that it is. Some people make assumptions about Wi-Fi and so forth, but look at them - they're having interstellar conversations in real time - that is simply not electromagnetic communications. And once you throw that out, you can throw out most of your assumptions about "wireless" hacking.

Why does the electromagnetic nature of it matter? There are "emissions" of some kind and "sensors" to pick those emissions up and transmit the signals. That's still effectively "wireless". Gungans are cool except for ONE STUPID GUNGAN THAT WAS CAST OUT!!! Yes, they cast him out and it was only due to the meddling humans that he got an influential position later on. Gungans are cool, do not discriminate against them, just because of the most (in)famous member of that species!

It can have all sorts of things to do with it. For example, the recurrent players asking "why didn't they just email the plans to the DeathStar" or "I'll just post it on the Holonet - the Empire can't stop me because trust me, I know how servers and networking are done" Everything we see in Star Wars indicates that whilst transmission *speeds* are very high (above lightspeed), transmission *bandwidth* is very limited. Want to deliver the plans for the Death Star? You'll have to take them there physically because the technology SW uses is only good enough for voice and some patchy blue holograms. You can't hack things wirelessly because what SW uses is not radiowaves, it's something else entirely and that technology isn't like that. Maybe it's quantum entanglement or some such, and hence far too constrained for hacking.

The Holonet was around before the Empire, you know this from TCW. Who knows how it was designed? The Internet structure is really the only logical one if you want reliability, which is just as important in a fascist state as a democratic one...possibly more so. And it's not like fascist states can't control the internet: if you were in China, and they had a Death Star, you probably wouldn't try to send such monumentally important information by email either...fascist states can control their local Internet quite well.

In any case, part of the reason I assume it's the same structurally as what we have is because then I don't have to waste time in game trying to explain to my non-StarWars-fan players why they can't do something. It's partly selfish but I don't think it violates any of what we see in the media.

Your Star Wars is not better than mine just because you have hair growing where you don't want it and thinning where you do. You just got cynical and crabby and forgot that Star Wars is a fairy tale with knights, princesses and wizards. Fairy tales are for kids (inner children included).

On the Holonet: I think it's important to remember that technology is not a strait line nor is any particular device inevitable. Technological space-fairing civilization in the SW setting has been around for tens of thousands of years and has developed on many disparate worlds by thousands of unique species with differing needs and intermixed for a large portion of that time.Also during this time technology has waxed and waned and gone off in unexpected directions. Often the best or newer tech isn't going to win out and be adopted, not because it isn't better but because the older tech works fine and is so entrenched and ubiquitous that to switch over would be more trouble than any newer tech benefit would provide. Not only this but there is the Force which will in it's own way have an effect as well. So it's best to just accept that the tech we see in the films (a 7-80's view of a future fantasy) is what it is and leave it at that.

On the Prequels: Sorry but this old man thinks they sucked and should be expunged from the world, forever. Not because I have anything against new stuff but because the films just aren't good story telling and, and be honest with yourself, are mostly forgettable and the stuff one does remember is generally because it's so painful to watch it's been burned into your brain like a catchy tune or plain screws with many of the cool concepts from the original films. The prequels weren't written for children as much as they were written by someone writing like a child. /rant

Oh, and Rounds are around a minute long but can be shorter or longer as needed. This is an important concept because it explains many of the choices made when FFG developed the Combat system which really isn't designed, in general, to be only a few seconds long. If you want to think of Rounds as being only 10 seconds or so then rules like Auto-Fire, Aiming, Movement, preforming other tasks etc. will need to be re-assessed.

Apologies, that was not the intention, even though you have a point. Fyi I LOVE Mouse Guard and as far as cartoons are concerned Pinky and The Brain never gets old. So, yes, Ewoks may have their place, if not in my game then in someone else's. You'll have to admit that Jar Jar was overdone, however. There is a difference between slapstick and cheap slapstick, just check out the OLD slapstick gods (Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin or the Marx Brothers).
