The Deep Realms Expansion

By Nemomon, in Talisman

Forgive me, the way my computer and web browsers are set up, it's near-impossible to hotlink the information in the forum.

Basically Nomad games is holding a contest for a charity (I belive it is called Second Life) that helps disabled children/adults play video games and games in general as therapy. You can submit a character on this forums, the nomad forums, the talisman digital edition steam group, or the facebook page. Submissions are pretty informal an no limit. All the rules contain is legal mumbo-jumbo consisting of "We can use your submission however we like, alter it how we like, don't get mad an sue us for creative control, lisences etc. It you submit you waver those rights, etc." Pretty normal for those types of contests.

Deadline for submissions is January 1st. After they go through them all they will take the ones the like and put them up for a vote.

You don't need to submit artwork or a 3d model or even a backstory blurb like you see in the rulebooks, you can simply come up with a name, the rules and stats.

So your submission can look like:

Character: Toad Knight

Start: Cursed Glade

Alignment: Neutral

Strength: 3

Craft: 3

Life: 4

Fate: 4

Gold: 1

Abilities:

Cursed forever, you are immune to being turned into a Toad.

When resolving a Battle with another character, if your opponent rolled a 1, they are turned into a slimy Toad for three turns.

After resolving your movement, you may hop one additional space in any direction.

Description: A anthropomorphic toad dressed in duelist garb with a rapier in hand.

Thanks for the clarification, Granville. That does make it easy for a person like me!

Truth to tell, I think I gravitate more towards imagining 'bosses' or concepts around fate, strangers, followers, etc.

But it does give me pause to think and it is a great cause. My wife actually had an idea after I mentioned this to her; so I'll probably work from that and make it my own!

Just to get this thread back on track...

Here's an update for anyone who likes to have a guess what some new artwork from The Deep Realms might represent -

Thoughts?

Let's see, the image has elements reminding me of

The Illuminati

Freemasonry

The Necronomicon (does it have a demonic face on the front cover that bites your hand off and then you can get a chainsaw attachment, becoming a Chainsaw Warrior!)

An astrological chart with a Pentagram aspect pattern with the primary point directed towards the Lower Midheaven

A Hydra (which was what Hercules had to defeat in his 2nd labour...Hercules + Talisman = Belt of Hercules!)

And what looks like a stick.

Putting all of this together means, um...wait, what was I talking about again? :)

One of the things that is implied by "The Deep Realms" is the ancientness of these tunnels and catacombs that connect the City and the Dungeon. "Tome of Ages" furthers that idea.

I have no idea, from a flavor text stance, what a Tome of Ages could be. Other magic objects that are books or "tomes" usually give extra spells or Craft to the owner. It could be something like that, but I wonder if it could be more?

My last sneak peek is now online for your delectation -

Fingers crossed for the "Add to cart" button becoming active some time soon!

Umm... Jon... don't You think that asking the Deep Realm to be out and showing an artwork of a trapped man is kind of a sign of hypocrisy? Do You really want the Deep Realm being out, or not? By the artwork we can tell You don't really want...

Because I want everyone to be trapped in the Deep Realms!

Mwuhahahahaha!

The thing that worries me about this expansion, is that there appears to be a card used as a board? Am I right or have I miss understood something?

If .... if that's the case then its pretty bad, a board should be a board and cards are cards.

Maybe you can let us know Jon, exactly how it will be.

Cards allow it to be Print on Demand; boards would probably need a real retail release.

Since this expansion can only reach a more limited market (those who own Dungeon and City) then perhaps PoD is better.

It is neither. It is what I call a " boardlet "

It does appear to be a more functional use for what seems to be the same dimensions as the Character, Toad, Alt. Endings, Reaper, Dragon Lords, and Werewolf cards. We don't actually know if they are the same dimensions, etc, but probably.

The idea behind the PODs (print-on-demand) are to make them more affordable, and less costs to the manufacturer.

It is likely that FFG have made a calculation on whether a small expansion with mini-boards that fit into the spaces between corner expansions was a viable set or not. I am pretty pleased with the first POD, The Nether Realm, so I am open to the idea of this one.

I think even those not so DIY-minded could very easily fix cards to a thicker stock if a very thin board is a nuisance. The cost saved in a PoD-release is, IMHO, readily spent in accomodating the playing pieces to my demanding standards.

Sleeves are my friend.

Any updates on a release date? I've been anxiously awaiting this one, we're past Q4 2014, and Deep Realms doesn't appear in the upcoming products page for some reason ( http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_upcoming.asp ).

I don't think it appears on the upcoming page as it's a PoD which is printed locally rather than having to wait for long shipping times from China.

The funny thing is that the Upcoming Page has a "Print on Demand" search option, but it doesn't give any result. I've noticed that while waiting for the Nether Realm, this time I hoped they fixed that search but apparently they didn't.

It depends. Randomly Talisman PoD seems not to have been added to the general PoD category. That might be something to do with it.

Well hopefully it releases soon my preorder at cool stuff inc is holding up my other things in that order ! :) cant wait to play it though.

Is there some kind of marketing advantage to not giving out prodcudt availability information? I mean how hard would it be for someone at FF to drop in here and say "hey guys, product will be shipping in two weeks..." or what ever.

Or is it "once we get 100 pre-orders we will print and deliver. Tell your freinds!"

It would be nice to get an official update why it was late and when it will actually be coming out considering a bunch of people already have purchased it expecing it last quarter. I too have a internet purchase tied up with this preorder!

Since the Deep Realms is not released for preorder from FFG I would question the place that allowed it to be preordered and whether they had confirmation on its release date.

FFG may monitor these boards but it appears to me they have very little vested interest in posting here. Perhaps that is a good thing since they do not regulate it too badly. I have seen some companies that seem to regulate everything that is said on a board which makes it a lot less fun....

I do agree though since the release date is late, we should get some sort of information.

Cool! Will be ordering first thing tomorrow!

BTW, just saw the Jinx follower card in that update link. I don't know who's a bigger b****, her or the Hag!

Just ordered it and cannot wait! The final descriptor was helpful in my understanding of how play/traversing works. I love the attention to continuity.

The Hag, hands down!
