they kept claiming they have no knowledge of its release so I cancelled my preorder with them ordered it direct from ffg and received it a week ago
My local game store says they will have it Friday and then told me about the shipping delays. I have heard of this recently in some gaming videos, there is a shipping strike on the west coast that has delayed many deliveries.
Loving Deep Realms "What a Set" finding no probs at mo..
We played with it for the first time last weekend, and are playing with it again today on this "cold day" (think "snow day" but with dangerously cold conditions instead) in West Michigan.
Last time, on my first encounter, I met and killed a Crawling Slime. It was my final Warlock Quest for the revealed ending, so I was teleported out, and never made it back to the Depths before my victory run.
This time, there are two Mirror Shields and a Stiletto on the Rat Queen. Oy. Junk.
However , the Wraith Lord has snagged the Cloak of Feathers, and since we randomly drew Lightbringers, that is *THE* hottest card in the game, so we will definitely be going after him. Fortunately, I am the Elementalist, so just need a bit of Craft to beat him and later crack the Portal of Power. My daughter found the Book of the Dead (take defeated enemies like the Necromancer) on her very first turn, so I can see this being an extremely fast game...
...IF we can get some favorable draws in the Realms deck.
We should go in at the same time, since we can add Strength and Craft together when we're on the same space, which I would guess trumps the usual Deep Realms rule of not "encountering" other characters in the Realms.
Such is Talisman, right?
All that said, just from this scenario above, the *randomness* of the stuff snagged by the Wraith Lord and Rat Queen is the masterstroke of the expansion in that it plays to what I have found to be Talisman's strongest points: crazy-stupid-fun randomness from one game to the next and the need to adapt play strategies to it.
I am glad you like the new challenges to get valuable treasures, Golbez! By the way, I must say the Lord of Darkness avatar you have is suitable for your username. (Final Fantasy IV!)
Regarding Lightbearers, I agree with you...although you can't encounter each other to trade objects and gold in the Deep Realms, I think you can still add your Strength and Craft.
But I see you were playing with the Elementalist... He's neutral... (Lightbearers is for good people!
)
It's fine. Just start with anyone and use the Alignment cards to make them good. Even the 'always Evil' folk if you ignore that ability.
By the way, the rules for The Deep Realms are now up on the Support pages (and Talisman Island).
Game update: worked like a charm to get the Cloak of Feathers! I went in solo, but had some Craft to spare from a Book-resurrected Night Guard. However, the Events were not kind to us, and on our way to meet up to give her Gladiator the Cloak (she had decent Strength and a better chance to beat the Sentinel and then breach the Portal) we drew THREE within just two turns. Game over, man, game over.
Yep, she was the (usually Evil) Gladiator, and she managed to get a magical sun-shield (new card for us)which, coupled with her character ability, made it so she'd only lose a life from failed battle or psychic combat on a roll of 1 during the Day. Nice!
I think Light Bearers (whoops, not Lightbringers) would be better served by having three or four Fate tokens per player rather than just two.
On Game Two--first was relatively fast, so we reshuffled and played again--we had another good throw-down. She won, legit. I didn't have time to poke around the Deep Realms or even the Dungeon, she was advancing so quickly!
Coolstuffinc has it in, hopefully they will ship mine immediately!
Got my official published copy! Woot!
Had my first game with the Deep Realms recently.
The Realms cards don't fully fit the gap between the Dungeon and City, leaving a space between the two cards or spaces between the Realms and the two Regions.
Apart from that, quite enjoyed it.
