The Deep Realms Expansion
When corners aren't enough...
oH My Gorsh! This is fantastic!
Additional Edit: So it looks like 'boardlets' between the Dungeon and City - very cool.
I want Jon to do the same/similar for Woodlands <<-->>HIghlands !
This looks great, really.
Edited by 0beronVery excited!!!
I'm a buzzz!
Awesome! This is also potentially a sign of more to come, as this is the first expansion designed to work with prior expansions.
Wow good Idea. I love it!
Don't know how this thing is going to pan out, our how it's going to fit on my table, but I'm very psyched for this! I hope we'll get some new characters for it as well, but that might be asking for too much?

Talisman: The Deep Realms
The Deep Realms , an expansion for Talisman Revised 4th Edition designed by Jon New, connects the Dungeon to the City by introducing the corpse-filled, rat-infested Deep Realms. Players can cross through the Deep Realms by means of a precarious and perilous bridge on one level, or venture even deeper underground, into an ancient system of dark tunnels inhabited by rats and feral pets, wraiths and zombies. In these gloomy places, players will encounter incredible danger, but may also find tantalizing rewards for their bravery.
Talisman: The Deep Realms contains:
-Two realm cards
-Twenty tunnel cards
-Twenty bridge cards

Edited by NemomonHow disappointing! I would have hoped for at least forty Bridge cards and forty tunnel cards:(!

That's a PoD expansion. All PoDs are meant to have a small amount of cards. The Nether Realm expansion had even less cards - 36.
You say You wanted 80 cards. Add 10 more cards, a couple of Spells, and You will get a normal expansion.
Awesome!
Looking at these boardlet spaces, I am guessing these add some amount of game balancing to the Dungeon and especially the City. Based on this little info, I'm thinking that Treasure Cards are randomly placed on the Wraith Lord space during setup, meaning that is where the Cloak of Feathers may end up. More importantly, if random Armoury and Magic Emporium Cards are placed on the Rat Queen space during setup, it's no longer an easy trip to the City to stockpile Flails and Spellbooks. The Rat Queen may be bedding on them! I would very much like to see this in action.
Of course, I may be utterly wrong, but the mention of Objects and Treasures adding to the Rat Queen and Wraith Lord stats makes me think this may very well be the case.
Edit-My original response seemed sarcastic upon rereading it. Just trying to fix that.
Edited by sanityismyvanityBut, Sanity, that is a really awesome thought; balance to some of the game aspects.
Upon second or third re-reading, I realize that you will not be able to technically *find a quick/easy way to enter the other region*. Its more about some extra, similar, corollary space to explore, with some possible good and bad caveats. Its possible that some of the encounters in the Bridge or Tunnel deck will allow you to traverse to certain spaces in each other region.
Or I have to wait for more details to know how it all works. Either way, it still looks like some fun.
I noticed that the previous POD by Jon is Nether Realm and this one is Deep Realm . I figure there was an agreement to author 3 or more of these 'realm' mini-sets.
Since this one is pretty different from Nether Realm, my guess is a third or subsequent ones will be different too:
The Time/less Realm - perhaps the final word on 'Timescape', with a mini set of cards and conditions to simulate timey-wimey adventures that aren't really Timescape, but might fit into Talisman.
The Airy (or Elven) Realm - a possible mid-point between the Fae inhabited Woodland and the denizens of the Highlands. In this I would want to see more dwarfed characters from the Highlands; But also some more aviary menaces too. Treasures from The Eagle Lord would figure in, just like treasures from the Lord of Darkness figure into Deep Realm
Indeed having certain treasures and city items guarded by these minibosses would change game play. We will hopefully see the final rules soon.
I am now wondering how they will bridge the Highland and Forest! I just can't wait.
You have a point, Nemomon, and I must admit I do greatly enjoy the Nether Realm expansion
. I just wish there were more cards in this one! On the bright side, however, the cards we've seen so far have been excellent and at least we can be reasonably certain that each Bridge and Tunnel card is unique.
As for the Timeless Realm, yes, please! I miss the Horrible Black Void being able to send its victim to Timescape
.
I hope we'll get some new characters for it as well, but that might be asking for too much?

Thank you! The original article didn't have anything on this. Too bad, but since it's a PoD, I didn't expect we'd get any.
Since it is a PoD, and PoDs are cheaper than the normal expansions, I'm pretty sure You will be able to purchase another Deep Realms and just homebrew some Tunnel and Bridge cards
.
The Timeless Realm. I think a lot of You know how much I do love the Timescape. But I wouldn't want to see it being made as a PoD. The PoD has its own limits, and the Timeless Realm could be less interesting as a PoD than it would be if it were a normal big expansion.
I also don't think that FFG will make a rule that the HBV (released years ago) now moves to the Timeless. If anything, they will just create a new Ending card that just moves to the Timeless Realm. But since the PoD Ending cards also can be distinguished from the other "normal" Ending cards (and this one shouldn't really be distinguished or otherwise everyone will know what's awaiting them at the CoC), such an Ending card could have even smaller chances of appearing.
But yeah, let's wait for the Deep Realms, and then dream about the future PoDs
.

The Nether Realm alternate endings are a bit noticeable, but there are 2 things I do to make up for this.
1. Sleeve all alternate endings
2. After shuffling the pile and landing at the CoC, roll a d6 to determine which of the top 6 cards will be used. You could use a d4 or something else as well.
Edited by DomaGBThe Nether Realm alternate endings are a bit noticeable,
With the exception that all the Nether Realm Ending cards are Revealed Endings, so they as well could have a big red X on their backs, and it wouldn't change a thing
.
The HBV MK II would need to be a Hidden Ending card, or otherwise nobody would ever consider entering the CoC. And if its back could be considerably different, players would know what awaits them at the CoC even without revealing the card.
And since all FFG products are meant to be played without any sleeves, making a card that is considerably different when it should not be any different at all costs could be an issue.
This is great news - and proof that there is still alot of life left in the game and alot more of the Talisman world still to explore just one step beyond the four corners that we've come to love!
Looks like another Christmas coming up with that "kid" feeling...so congrats and many thanks to Jon New on another exciting Realm POD expansion!

According to here:
http://www.talismanwiki.com/Category%3AStandard_Ending
Pandora's Box is a standard ending, not a revealed ending. But that doesn't matter either as I have 1 or 2 revealed endings as Hidden endings, for example I even use the fan made alternate ending "Winner Takes All" as a hidden ending.
Not gonna debate sleeves, as its a matter of opinion, and not sure what you mean by "are meant to be played without any sleeves" as they sell sleeves. You can still roll a dice to determine which card to use. And note that you don't even have to have a dice with the same number of cards, you just want to generate a number since they are shuffled.
Edited by DomaGBThis looks pretty cool, and we will likely get another pod expansion just like it after.
Jon is my god, thanx guy
Jon is my god, thanx guy
The holy god of Talisman. I here he has a Island too WOW!
Nice Surprise !
So the upper way is connected with a briddge, the middle way has new minibosses, the lower way is as it was before. that makes the new minimap quite small, in height two spaces.
Sure the highland and the woodland will get the same. now what about ths small gap between dungeon and woodland, City and highland ?
