Brath to basics.

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

Sexy Rexy with predator 40 points

Naked howlie 18 points

naked backstabber 16 points

2 naked obsidian pilots at 13 points each.

Any ideas how to improve this list? The idea is T/D with miniswarm and trying to not get too fat.

Ok, replacing obsidian with academy and giving howlie swarm tactics will help.

Personally, I would switch out Backstabber for Dark Curse. More durable.

Well I would start with putting some clothes on all them flying in space naked isn't as fun as it sounds but I agree with Jason dark curse is annoying to kill.

The choice between Backstabber and Dark Curse is always a tough one

Given my green dice, though, I generally opt for Backstabber first :P I love using both simultaneously if the points let me, though.

Yeah i'd rather rely on red than green, and i can always float backstabber as a flanker. Or H2A centre, Brath left flank, Baxter right flank.

Revised:

Rexlar Brath "Sexy Rexy" with Predator 40 points

Howlrunner "Howlie" with Swarm Tactics 20 points.

Backstabber "Baxter" 16 points. I'll stick with Baxter as my red dice like me a bit more than my green.

Academy pilot "Tim" 12 points

Academy pilot "Nigel" 12 points.

I am currently running:

Rexler Brath, Heavy Laser Cannon, Lone Wolf, Shield Upgrade

Obsidian

Obsidian

Academy

Academy

It not yet tournament legal and it is definitely "fat", but the more I play with this list the happier I am becoming with it!

Dropping those Obsidians to APs and picking up Swarm tactics looks like a good call. Howlrunner w/Swarm tactics gives you 2 TIEs shooting before Brath that can strip off tokens and shields for him. At least until Howlrunner dies.

After Worlds I swore a solemn vow never to fly a Defender without an Ion Cannon, ever again.

As it turns out in the game I played yesterday it wasn't.

My opponents list: 3 gold Y-wings with R2s and ion turrets. 1 outer rim smug / mil falcon. The obs would have given me a solid advantage in PS. It was a gamble, could have gone either way.

I consider the gaem a loss, after about 45 mins he had lost the smug and had a crippled Y, but I had lost 3/4 of the TIE fighters, with only Academy and Rex remaining. I could easily blame it on the dice - afterall i only successfully dodged 2 ion bolts the entire game, but I won't. My friend was using tactics he picked up from me. Not even bothering to ue the Y-wings guns and instead going for the safe "well if you are out of fire arc what does it matter, ION" approach. This DID backfire on him once, where due to ioning and positioning his YT was in range one of EVERYTHING and suffered a critical existance failure (having done no damage) but really, the YT was the biggs in this game, not the real threat. I did make some misjudged moves, getting howlie hit an asteroid at one oint (only just - but that's enough, and as per usual my asteroids have a 100% hit rate).

This game did remind me that statistically red dice are better than green, and throwing more red the better. ARC Dodging against the enemy list was pointless and that made me glad that i didn't bring my 181st build (tur, 4 sabres ALL THE PUSH THE LIMIT).

The followup question i'd ask is - how would you fight the 3Y-YT list?

Listing my mistakes:

Despite my opponent deploying in a corner rather than centre I continued my original "centre flank" strategy. This was in hindsight pretty dumb and probably cost me the game. I should have kept them together.

A couple of minor asteroid misjudgements.

I did focus on one target at at time but wasn't able to finish the Y-wing before he few it away, the continual ion pressure really hurt. I fired rexlar before howlie/ac. - This was stupid given how rexies proc works.

A list with only 1 agi ships should have been a great matchup for all those 2 dice attacks you have in the list. Biggest mistake was focussing the ors down first. The ors has more hit points and an evade token over the Y's while he is less likely to do damage with his 2 dice attack versus your 3 dice defense. Trying to stay at range 3 from the y's would've also helped you a lot as his turrets don't reach that far and his 2 dice primairy attacks are worthless against 4 defense dice.

I can't call focussing the ORS down as my mistake as due to ions it was all that i coud shoot at one point. it was at no point my primary target. - but it was a sole target of opportunity. That's why it died.

Did you happen to take a few pictures of the game with your phone or other device?

One thing with Ions is to line up your tie fighters in such a way that you will still get your action and have something to shoot at even if you assume all of them ionized (usually start at one extreme edge, 5 forward and then a hard turn into the enemy list)

Brath (Lonewolf HLC)
Howlrunner

3x Academy Pilot

100pt

I probably should have done, but no I didn't. I do believe my initial centre TIE with flankers setup was a mistake.

I prefer Predator on Brath and then flying him at Range 1 of Howlie.

Because, rerolls. :)

If you have a FireSpray try this...

Rexler Brath

HLC

Predator

Boba Fett

HLC

Predator

Rebel Captive

Slave-1

The two HLCs with the rerolls from Predator is nothing to sneeze at since the rerolls can remain Crit Hits if you get them(Remember the timing of HLC and Predator). Have Boba shoot first so you have a greater chance of hitting naked hull with Rexler. Use Rexler's Focus and flip those damage cards over and watch your opponent frown(If by change a reveled damage card causes another facedown damage because of Rexler it flips over as well). They declare Boba an attack target they take a stress and since you'll be using Evade because you have rerolls from Predator you'll be a PITA to drop. Also, Rexler with his 3 Agility Dice is another PITA to bring down. Just food for thought. Hope this helped some.

I can give that a try, though i'm leery of 2 ship builds.

Please do. Let me know how it works for you. I've used it to great success. I failed to mention in the original post it comes at 99 points for an initiative bid as well. Happy flying...
