Rebel list - 'But I wanna use all my spaceships!'

By HoundsTooth, in X-Wing

As I've recently has my first 'grown up' game of X-Wing and (it would appear) switched allegiance I decided to see which rebel lists I could put together using the models I have. I realised I could run Han Shoots First and Bluebacca. Blue Thunder and Bloody Daggers are definates to try. Biggs Walks the Dogs is also on the list... But then I realised I had a HWK-290 and an A-Wing sitting doing nothing. A single A-Wing doesn't really add anything to any of the above lists and forcing in a HWK didn't seem worthwhile either. So now I've been 'forced' into coming up with a list of my own to incorporate the two 'outcasts'. This is what I've managed to come up with.

Chewbacca + Expert Handling + Gunner + Millennium Falcon

Jan Ors + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

What are everyone's thoughts? Is this going to work at all? The idea is Jan adding the extra attack dice to Chewie and using the A-Wing as a cheap-ish blocker (I know Bandits are cheaper but I don't have any... yet!). All I need to do know is to learn to avoid the asteroids!

So, with that out of the way...

I like what you have there actually. Chaardan Prototypes are great blocker and nuisance ships, and Jan's ability is awesome. I would be afraid that this list, with only a whooping 6 attack, would lack the firepower to do a lot of damage though.

Now, that being said, if these are non-competitive fun games, have at it man!

I owned several minifigs like these and they did, indeed, often split right under the chin on the helmet. I laughed outloud and smiled when I saw this character was going to be in the movie (which I haven't yet seen). So many fond memories of Lego, and I still collect Star Wars themed sets.

To be fair, his squad has 8-9 red dice. Three on Chewie, 3 on Jan, 2 on the A-wing, and a bonus 1 when Jan triggers her ability.

Not knowing what you have available, I suggest you make Jan's turret an Ion Canon Turret and replace Expert Handling with Predator on Chewie.

With that taken care of the A-Wing can block or flank while Jan boosts Chewie (or the A-Wing if apropriate) as well as providing some board control with the Ion.

6 attack at rang 3, but from range 1-2 it puts out decent firepower.

I just don't know about the Chewie setup. I think I rather run predator than Expert Handling but you would have to drop the title. Maybe drop Gunner? Jan is going to let Chewie shoot with 4-5 attack dice. I don't think Gunner would be kicking in all that much. But I guess it would not be bad to use when Jan goes down. I think its a decent list. HWKS + Falcons are getting a lot of use lately.

no Y-wings :(

No... When I first got into X-Wing I was all about the Imperials. Hence a lack of rebel ships (for the moment!).

I'd considered the Ion Cannon Turret but went for the Blaster Turret as it's a point cheaper and meant I could get the Falcon title card in. Looking at what I was trying to achieve (boosting Chewie's fire power) the evade option might be a little redundant. Also thought about Predator rather than Expert Handling for this reason but again, the extra point cost was a deciding factor. But, saying all that... Veldrin, you've got me thinking! If I take the Ion Cannon Turret then all the focus farming (Moldy Crow + Recon Specialist) become a little redundant. It's still a little light on the attack dice but what about this list for a little board control? ;)

Chewbacca + Marksmanship or Predator + Gunner + Millennium Falcon

Jan Ors + Ion Cannon Turret + Tactician

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

This comes in at 98pts. Would it be worth putting Veteran Instincts on Jan? This would leave me at 99pts for the initiative.

I'd throw Predator on instead of Marksmanship for sure. 4-5 dice, a focus, and 1-2 rerolls is nasty.

I haven't seen the movie. Is that what they were playing on *ahem* that other podcast?

Chewbacca + Marksmanship or Predator + Gunner + Millennium Falcon

Jan Ors + Ion Cannon Turret + Tactician

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

I wouldn't go Tactician on a HWK, unless you are really confident in your maneuvering with that ship, since it only works in your primary arc. Maybe swap for Saboteur?

That's a good point Kyrios, I hadn't thought of that! That might be a nice counter-point to Chewie not taking crits. Chewie don't take 'em and to rub it in Jan makes you take one!

Looking over on the thread discussing Jan/Han builds I threw this together:

Chewbacca + Predator + Cluster Missiles + Gunner + Engine Upgrade + Millennium Falcon

Jan Ors + Squad Leader + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Engine Upgrade + Moldy Crow

Doesn't quite fit the brief (maybe that lone A-Wing will never see the light of day!) but might be interesting (though short lived in a actual game!). Jan can store focus for the blaster then switch to handing evades to Chewie. Engines give them a little bit more of a chance of dodging arcs... Not sure that I could pull it off at the moment though. Not with asteroids on the table!

I'm seconding suggestions that put an Ion Turret on Jan instead of the expensive Blaster Turret.

How's that when the Ion costs 5 and the Blaster costs 4? It's simply that you need those other 3 point upgrades before you'll even consider the Blaster. Don't forget that Jan's ability leads to Stress and stress is bad for actions which you need to fire the Blaster. "Oh but I'll have a big collection of Focus tokens available." Maybe you will be maybe you won't and what's saying those tokens aren't going to be needed for other things like saving Jan when she's taking a lot of fire.
