A 4th Edition?

By SuperKalelJorson7, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

I think TI3 is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Epic and huge with everything I like in a game.

But comparing the graphics and sculpts in TI3 to some of the newer games like StarCraft it starts to show its age a little. Not that I have the money for a newer version, but I wondered if anything was on the horizon, even if it was another expansion for TI3.

I think the biggest reason to publish a new edition of TI3 is to revise the rulebook.

They really don't have to.

Many older games have a "living rule book" maintained by the community, or in certain cases by the designer or eve publisher.

TI could have one of those for download, and it would go a long way towards fixing things for a much lower cost in time and resources a reprint would take.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a revised and updated rulebook released as a pdf. Easy, cheap for them and gathers all the new and errated rules in one place.

I haven't heard of anything new for TI3 (let alone a TI4) in the works, but this is FFG's flagship game. I somehow doubt there will never be anything new in the franchise. That said, it's hard to imagine what they could even put in an expansion. I for one am never opposed to new races or new planets, even if they are just "more of the same." I know there are some people who would consider an expansion a waste unless it introduced something new though.

I have to disagree. Unlike Starcraft TI3 really can't sustain big detailed sculptures on the board. I think the way the ships and such are made for TI3 are simple yet detailed just enough for the game.

I concurr. I don't see TI3's scupts or graphics as being dated. The artwork for TI3 is still fantastic, and the scupts are more than adequate. I wouldn't want a game to be revamped just to change the visuals, especially when the current visuals are still fantastic.

I've seen some games where there is too MUCH detail, to the point where the detail in graphics, etc, detract from the game itself. TI3 strikes a good balance. Yeah, Starcraft's graphics are fine, too, but I don't see Starcraft's graphics as superior.

TIs ships and units look the way they do to give it its own style. Yes the Dreadnought looks like a star destroyer and the cruiser looks like BSG, but WHO CARES lol. they have a look and style that still says "Im TI3 and dont you forget it!"
