Interview with Alex Davy

By mrfroggies, in X-Wing

I will watch this when I get home. Looking forward to a third thread.

Alex goes into some detail on his feelings on this. I think his opinions are sound on the fortress tactic.

Back in OR to enjoy this lovely weather Mr. F?

First minute he mentions more epic ships. No specifics, but people who want Empire Epic ships can stop crying.

I think that's a pretty conclusive response on the fortressing front.

Reasonable commentary. Tempest in a teacup is pretty accurate.

I was hoping Steven could wrangle some leaks out of him, but apparently some Reverends have lost their swagger.

This is outstanding, thanks for posting this Froggies!

He said he reads the forums, but that FFG has their employees agree not to post on this or any forum.

I listened the entire thing and I did not get that at all. English is not my first language, but what I have understood is that Frank HAS BEEN in charge of the Epic stuff. I did not hear anything explicit about MORE ships or FUTURE epic releases.

Good to hear him acknowledge that fortressing isn't what is envisioned for the game. Hopefully they come up with a clever, elegant solution to the problem if it gets out of hand.

There's a subtle implication in English by him saying "has been in charge" rather than "was in charge." If Frank handled the two epic ships that came out at the beginning of this year and there were no more epic ships made, Alex probably would have said "was in charge." But saying "has been in charge" seems to indicate that making epic ships has been an ongoing process that didn't end with a single data point (the two Rebel epic ships released months ago).

It's not conclusive, but the insinuation is there.

@Julio - just that Frank is currently working on Epic things, which implies that more is on the way

I'm with Alex. It's within the rules, not fun to watch/play, but probably won't catch on because it wouldn't have worked without bad green dice roles from the opponent.

He said near the end that they're already designed Fat Han killer upgrades, but is waiting to see how waves 5 and 6 affect the meta before releasing them.

I posted in another thread, but I think it bears repeating. Christian Petersen, CEO of FFG, answered a question related to epic ships in the FFG Inflight Report at GenCon 2014.

Basically somebody asked, "With the release of Armada, are we going to see an end to capital ships in X-wing?" and Christian replied, "You're probably wondering why the Rebels have a couple big ships. What about the other guys? Don't worry too much."

Mr. Froggies, thanks for posting this video. I didn't grasp the gravity of the 'fortress' problem until I watched this video. But I really feel that Alex did a good job answering the question, and I agree with his comments about it probably not becoming a chronic problem.

He mentioned "Smugglers [and] Spies." Just sayin'

I believe in Alex Davy and Frank Brooks.

Good to hear him acknowledge that fortressing isn't what is envisioned for the game. Hopefully they come up with a clever, elegant solution to the problem if it gets out of hand.

Thanks, I appreciate!! I learned something there.

He also said that the third faction was all the ships that couldn't fit into the other two. It makes no sense for another criminal faction.

I just started watching this and had to pause it and ask.

Alex mentions an update to bombs, what is he talking about? I am not aware of any change to bombs.

There was an FAQ change that allowed Proximity Mines to detonate when dropped if they were overlapping an enemy ship.

yeah...but he was lumping them into the conversation about Scum and Villainy - those edge people that are unaffiliated with either the Rebellion or the Empire

time will tell

Oh! thats simple, good idea, I would love to see bombs used more, I hate the fact that the tie advanced does not get used.

You sush with your logic and sense making.
