Because Bountry Hunters don't care much either way about slavery.

However, there are a LOT of bounties where there's a bigger payoff for returning an acquistion alive than dead (there's one in the EoE book for a start).

So it makes sense there would be a type of BH who specialises in that; Brawl skills, takedowns, non-lethal weapons, etc.

The reason slavery is an 'issue' is because there is moral ambiguity to assassins, gangsters, and frankly even drug runners to a lesser extent. All of them and whether they would be termed good or bad depend on perspective, environment, and details. The is no room on the bumper of slaver to slap a happy face sticker.

Also I want to point out that eventhough there is indeed an Assassin spec there is no Murderer one and that, although, you can be a smuggler there is no such thing as a drug dealer spec either.

This seems to make the title assassin very much political, but bounty hunters shouldn't care about that and if they don't, then assassin just means paid murderer.

What one person, or culture, deems good is often also deemed evil by others. I could deem everyone who eats meat as practicing slavery or condoning it. Or the fact that our star wars books and plastic figures (or the clothes we wear) are likely made in China or other places where those who make them likely don't get paid a living wage. Moral ambiguity is nothing more than covering your eyes and ears going 'lalalalala' and pretending that everything you do is 'good and proper' and there are no injustices because of what we do. That is a bit of a lie, but it helps us sleep at night.

We are at a time when we paint our villians as idols; Breaking Bad, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, etc. Etc. We idolize some bad people and condemn others. It is a tricky subject.

I bring up Hutts as an example. They indulge in slavery, greed and peddle so many illegal things. I have never seem a 'good' hutt. The person drawn to play a hutt will either embrace the thought that hutts will do ANYTHING to become powerful, or rail against ot and make an anti-hutt, or the star wars equivalent of Drizzt Do'Urden.

I feel we already have a precedent with this game line to be playing the 'bad guys'. Where does the the arbitrary line get drawn? Who decides? The death of another being at your hands is no less egregious than other crimes.

This is a topic that can easily turn sour. Let us try to be civil to each other.

Ambiguity isn't tough to invoke at all, honestly you did in all the questions you pose. Changing definitions to suit arguments isn't relevant because FFG/Disney are going to use the established definition of language and terms when publishing material and slavery is defined as the economic trade of people as property. Beyond pointless discussions about semantics, there is the simple reality of history which may be easy for individuals to ignore or deny, but it is not possible for politicians and companies. I repeat, I will literally fall down if FFG, via The Mouse, greenlights a spec named Slaver.

In the Star Wars universe, slavery is viewed almost universally in a negative light. Slavers, the people who capture and/or sell people into slavery, are viewed in a completely 100% negative light by all but prospective slave owners. There is cultural slavery in Star Wars, for sure (e.g. the Klatooinians and Nikto), but slavers don't really have anything to do with that.

You can be a heroic Hutt. You don't have to be a drug runner or a crime lord; you could be a Scholar, Fringer, or even a Heavy. Your PC is the exception, not the rule (which is why we have Chiss PCs during the Rebellion era)

You can be a heroic assassin, killing the worst the galaxy has to offer (criminals and Imperials). Another IP even made an entire video game series out of it. (Assassins Creed)

You cannot be a heroic slaver. I'm sorry, you can't. There is nothing heroic or honorable about imposing your will over another sentient being and owning them like property, treating them like you would a farm animal.

That is a background, not an active vocation. That is a Criminal Obligation you're trying to live down, not an active practice you still partake in. That is a villain, not a PC.

In this setting i'd substitute the horse with a starship, so your image would be better represented by Boba Fett stalking the Falcon to Bespin in the Slave I, so IMO beast-riding has no special connection with Bounty Hunters, while it has much more with Aces thanks to the beast-riders of Onderon.

I think Survivalist will probably have to do for an animal handler in BH career I would think. I can see a BH using beasts of burden, but not catching, raising and training them. A Trapper spec might have some kind of hunting beast talent tacked onto it.

Pretty much seen all classic westerns and, again, everyone was on horseback. It is not a Bounty Hunter trope at all as far as I'm concerned.
