Only the Bountyhunter and Technician book left...

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

For me, the Squibs are just too silly. Ewoks are bad enough, but Squibs are just a step too far.

A few year ago I ran a d20 SW:Saga module that featured a Squib. One of my players asked why the Chiss would be interested in fur fetishism.

So, yeah, I agree. There are plenty of background aliens and monsters to sort through before an ill-thought-out species designed by WEG needs to be brought to the foreground.

One of the players in the group I'm part of loves playing as Squib so I'm hoping they make it into the tech book for their sake. Our main EOE GM really prefers not to use house-ruled species.

Again, I'd be surprised if we ever saw Sluissi. They're hardly iconic to the setting, and they're not a film alien, so trends suggest FFG'd look elsewhere. If anything, we'll see one of Sluissi, Verpine, or Squib, and the latter two are far more prevalent in Legends than the Sluissi are. But, hey, we've got both an Engineer book and a Technician book to look forward to, so who knows? Maybe we'll get two of the three. Personally, I'd prefer the bugs and the furballs.

Verpine seem to me to be the most likely — they’ve been referred to in some of the games, there are a few reasonably well known droid models from them, and I think they’re different enough from the Geonosians and other bug-type species that we might actually see them.

and B-Wing.....

If they ever introduce the Clone Wars Cartoon fighters they designed the V-19s as well.

Diff'rent strokes and all that. I happen to love both Ewoks and Squibs. Not sure why your player felt the Squibs were "fur fetishism" (he or she meant like furries?) There's absolutely nothing sexualized about them, unlike, say, some of the Cathar or the other cat people that lazy EU writers have given us.

Oh well; I like Verpine, too, mind you, so I'd be happy if they showed up instead. But if we can get one in the Technician book and the other in the AoR Engineer book, all the better IMHO.

It was just a joke. But it pointed to the fact that the Squib are an example of lazy creature designs. I'm not arguing that Ewoks are better, per say, but they were featured in a film.

As the guy who wrote the Squib entry on Wookieepedia, just let me say that A) not all Squibs are blue; B) the Squibs were introduced long before the Chiss in Star Wars lore; and C) I've actually always considered them pretty brilliant creature design, answering the question of what happens to all the junk Imperial ships jettison, as seen in ESB.

Again, as I said, diff'rent strokes and all that. :)

I think Squibs are fine, and they're far more likely to be encountered by your average spacer than the Ewoks.

Just for that Happy, I am making an Ewok Bounty Hunter / Ace just to Hunt your PC down!

"YUB YUB COMMANDER!!"

The Squibs by themselves were just okay. It's the Squib/Ugor dynamic that made them interesting.

Google brought me here.

I hope they title the Bounty Hunter book, "No Disintegrations".

That would be my bet, if I were a betting man which i'm not, other than buying lottery tickets which helps underprivileged kids go to college so I don't mind loosing the money for a good cause, and if I was unfortunate (not a typo) enough to win, although it would cause me all sorts of problems, I could do a lot of good with it (more would be given to charities than kept for myself), the little bit that I do win in the lottery, at least half I give to charity. No it's not a bribe to the big guy upstairs, HE can't be bribed. the point is to do good because it makes HIM happy, not because of anything I do or do not get in return. Sorry for the ramble my brain is fried tonight. This is your brain, this is your brain on a highly technical work shop where some of the presenters seemed to think that real world examples requiring considerable subject matter expertise to follow was a good way to demo software

Wut?

I just think we should get a Tech specialization that can do what a doctor does to organics/rigger type stuff. Plus, they can totally make the tech sourcebook into a weapons, armor, and gear guide as well as more ships and such. Wish they would stop lagging on this one.

I'm still rooting for "Fearless and Inventive".

Signature Cyborg??

I think a tech book will definitely contain more equipment and ships, but don't expect much more than what we have seen in such books. If a compiled or comprehensive equipment and/or ships book is ever done it will be more near the end of the line. Better to a little bit here or there increasing the value of other books.

It seems that for the "Non-Combat" specs they always add one with a combat flavor. So for the tech I think you might see starship jacker. Hey are referenced often in the lore. A combination thug, hacker, starship pilot.

I'm hoping we get some Ugly designs in the tech book, along with more extensive starship modding rules and maybe rules to make our own Ugly designs. I woud love a full starship design system but feel that might be better in the Engineer book rather than then tech one.

I would love to see some DIE-Wings! It's a personal favorite because it's so darn useless against anything that is not on foot. Although seeing some stats for the Twi'lek Chir'daki fighters would be cool too..

I would love to see the Clutches too, and some older Ugly designs. Almost every Ugly I remember being statted in any of the Star Wars RPG systems has included TIE parts. I would love some built solely from pre-Clone Wars designs.

I don't know that it would necessarily fit the Bounty Hunter theme, but I would love to see a Martial Artist talent tree... Marauder is close, but I'd love to see one with a specific focus on Brawl and some Discipline-oriented stuff.

There is room in the AoR splatbooks I suppose but I am surprised they didn't do a hand to hand spec yet. I was thinking maybe like an underground cage fighter/pit fighter theme. It's a sort of bounty, traveling the galaxy and trying to take the pot from the betting and such, or being paid on some underground gladiator circuit, or just being the ultimate low end hunter that doesn't need gear.

A little out there for an idea I admit and probably easier to tack onto Soldier or Spy in AoR, but still.

Enforcer and aggressor kind of fit.

Yeah, it's not a perfect fit... If not for Force talents, I'd suggest using the F&D talents trees to represent martial arts.

I bet the Bounty Hunter Sourcebook is going to be called "No Disintegrations"

Probably not considering that is a West End Games name for it.
