Only the Bountyhunter and Technician book left...

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Again, I'd be surprised if we ever saw Sluissi. They're hardly iconic to the setting, and they're not a film alien, so trends suggest FFG'd look elsewhere. If anything, we'll see one of Sluissi, Verpine, or Squib, and the latter two are far more prevalent in Legends than the Sluissi are. But, hey, we've got both an Engineer book and a Technician book to look forward to, so who knows? Maybe we'll get two of the three. Personally, I'd prefer the bugs and the furballs.

Second, I wonder if they might port the Rigger over from the Ace book as one of the Technician's specializations. Or would that be too similar to Outlaw Tech?

Unfortunately you make a lot of sense, I see it the same way.

It's going to be interesting to see how they create so many different specializations without too much overlap. I don't have a problem with one out of three specs per book being reprinted, but I don't want four different specs that only differ in two talents each.

To be fair, I'll accept some overlap, that's inevitable.

So far, I think FFG have been aware of this issue and tried not to overdo it:

Explorer book: 2 new specs, 2 new species

Hired Gun book: 3 new specs, 3 new species

Colonist book: 3 new specs, 2 new species.

Smuggler book: 3 new specs, ? new species

Ace book: 3 new specs, 3 new species

That's acceptable for me. I hope they keep this balance going forward as the list grows longer. It would make sense to see Twi'leks and Wookies, say, in AoR, or Mercenary Soldier in the Commander book.

This got me thinking what established and recognizable alien species from the films have not gotten stats in Fantasy Flight Games yet?

  • Anzati from Star Wars (possibly in the Bounty Hunter sourcebook)
  • Bith from Star Wars (possibly in the Technician or an Age of Rebellion sourcebook)
  • Jawa from Star Wars (possibly in the Technician or a Tatooine sourcebook)
  • Saurin from Star Wars (possibly in the Bounty Hunter sourcebook)
  • Shistavanen from Star Wars (possibly in the Bounty Hunter or an Age of Rebellion sourcebook)
  • Snivvian from Star Wars (could show up anywhere)
  • Tusken Raider from Star Wars (probably in a Tatooine sourcebook)
  • Ugnaught from The Empire Strikes Back (possibly in the Technician or an Age of Rebellion sourcebook)
  • Amani from Return of the Jedi (possibly in the Bounty Hunter sourcebook)
  • Ewok from Return of the Jedi (maybe in an Age of Rebellion sourcebook)
  • Gamorrean from Return of the Jedi (should've been in the Hired Gun or Hutt Space sourcebook)
  • Ishi-Tib from Return of the Jedi (probably in an Age of Rebellion sourcebook)
  • Ortolan from Return of the Jedi (could show up anywhere)
  • Quarren from Return of the Jedi (could show up anywhere)
  • Whiphid from Return of the Jedi (possibly the Bounty Hunter sourcebook)

These are just a few and obviously there are dozens of other species that populated Mos Eisley and Jabba the Hutt's palace. I also didn't include any species from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, or Revenge of the Sith, because, well, because I don't like thinking about them.

Of the species listed above I am most surprised that Bith and Gamorrean haven't shown up as a playable species yet.

I'm surprised that Ugnaught and Lutrillian (sp?) didn't get rules in Jewel of Yavin. Putting player-aimed info into adventures seems to be a ting for the WH40K lines these days, so I expect it in SW too.

Watto bought and sold slaves. He didn't seem to be all that much of a bad guy.

Possibly because his slaves never acted like they were slaves.

There are many forms of slavery. I would say that the Skywalkers were more likely to be in a form of debt bondage or indentured servitude to Watto than in the form of slavery historically associated with the American South.

But....

If I had to guess, I would guess we are getting a third adventure module and a third regions book for edge as well before it's "complete." 6 class books, 3 region books, 3 adventure modules. There's a certain symmetry there. So from the assumption (which, again, has absolutely no basis in reality or anything I know) that we have 4 books yet,

Am I the only one to find it difficult to believe that FFG will end the line just because they have a so called "complete" set of books. I mean why not either just increase the number of region/adventure books or give each career another 3 specs?

After all the careers get their own book, I'd like to see them phase out that portion of the line. Really - we have awesome coverage so far, so another 3 careers (plus gear and ships and whatnot for that career) is probably redundant. I'd like to see them start doing stuff like a book of ships, a book of gear, a book of droids, a book of vehicles. Then perhaps some setting books: sector A, sector B and the C region.

By that point, with all three lines spitting out content, the Rebellion era would be pretty fleshed out. Lets see them then diversify with some era books. Old Republic, Really, really Old Republic, New Republic, Clone Wars era, Legacy era and so on.

I've spun this off to a new thread. I love talking about aliens. :)

And yet, no one on the thread has brought up the most important question about these books...the titles.

Submitted, for your approval:

Bounty Hunters - "Fearless and Inventive"

Technicians - "It's Not My Fault"

If they continue their release schedule and pattern, they will move through sourcebooks, splatbooks, and modules by about spring of 2016. That is about 3ish months after the first new movie is released. I've got no crystal ball, but I am pretty confident what the first 'new' book will be about at that point....

For bounty hunters, my money is on "No Disintegrations"

Technician could also be "Special Modifications"

Doubtful since WEG already published a product under that exact name for bounty hunters. Doesn't exclude it exactly, but I would be unimpressed by FF lack of originality.

Ah. I was not aware of that. Good point.

Something tells me that the bounty hunter book will have the word Acquisitions in the title, maybe "Deadly Acquisitions" or something. Who knows, your guess is as good as mine.

Nobody likes My Kind of Scum as a title?

My take.

Technicians

Career Specializations

Armorer (Weaponsmith would also work)

Engineer

Scavenger

Races

Bith

Quarren

Snivvian

Bounty Hunters

Career Specializations

Courier

Private Investigator

Shipjacker

Races

Anzat

Clawdite

Ubese

I could easily see Infiltrator showing up as a Bounty Hunter spec. Sometimes hunters go in covertly to grab their target, and the skills and talents of Infiltrator work well.

So, high time to predict some specializations and races for those!

My 2 cents:

- I think Bounty Hunter will be the last book released

- It will be out Q3 of next year.

Predictions Technician

Specializations (I know there is 4 but I can't decide):

- Scavenger

- Miner

- Droid builder

- Weapon Smith

Races:

- Jawa

- Ugnauth

- Quarren

Predictions Bounty Hunter

Specializations:

- Repoman

- Gladiator/pit fighter

- Private eye

Races:

- Ubese

- Gamoreans (due to pitt fighter specialisation, and because I love those porkers!)

- Mandolorian human

I am aware that these are very untraditional "bounty hunters" but they would really be nice additions to the roster anyway.

Personally, I would LOVE to see an Ewok Pit Fighter/Gladiator, w/ a Bowcaster or Lightsaber running around PWNing people!

Or an Ewok Scoundral/Private Eye doing a film noir scene. "Yub Yub...Eeechawamma Yub Yub...PEW PEW" translation "The names Wicket..James Wicket...001/2 Licensed to PEW PEW "

Nobody likes My Kind of Scum as a title?

Conceptually, here is my issue with the titles "My Kind of Scum" and "Fearless and Inventive" from the Jabba quote "This Bounty Hunter is my kind of scum, fearless and inventive." Jabba is refering to Leia in disguise..a rebel operative, not actually a bounty hunter. These titles as a reference to a particular moment in the films would be out of context.

"Scum and Villiany"would be another potential option, but will FF avoid it so EotE stays distinct from the new X-Wing faction of that name?

For me, the Squibs are just too silly. Ewoks are bad enough, but Squibs are just a step too far.

Verpine seem to me to be the most likely — they’ve been referred to in some of the games, there are a few reasonably well known droid models from them, and I think they’re different enough from the Geonosians and other bug-type species that we might actually see them.
