Only the Bountyhunter and Technician book left...

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, high time to predict some specializations and races for those!

My 2 cents:

- I think Bounty Hunter will be the last book released

- It will be out Q3 of next year.

Predictions Technician

Specializations (I know there is 4 but I can't decide):

- Scavenger

- Miner

- Droid builder

- Weapon Smith

Races:

- Jawa

- Ugnauth

- Quarren

Predictions Bounty Hunter

Specializations:

- Repoman

- Gladiator/pit fighter

- Private eye

Races:

- Ubese

- Gamoreans (due to pitt fighter specialisation, and because I love those porkers!)

- Mandolorian human

I am aware that these are very untraditional "bounty hunters" but they would really be nice additions to the roster anyway.

Miner seems more like an NPC "spec". Gladiator seems out of place (Marauder does this, surely?). But the rest (both the specs and the species) would be very welcome.

I don't know man, miner seems to be an excellent career to come from, it would be a career if you want to be a technician while at the same time be strong and bulky enough to carry huge drills and has access to resources. Seems like an awesome corridor to venture through to me... I immediately think of the Quarren miners in the Clone Wars cartoons and their uprising against the Mon Calamari, using their mining tools as weapons.

I guess you are right about the marauder but it does not seem to fit the Gladiators as I played them in KOTOR... You know, the armoured guys duking it out in the arena?

I'd rather see Ubese, Clawdite and Devaronian in the Bounty Hunter book. I imagine we'll get a Mandalorian source book at some point and if we must have another human variant, I'd really prefer it stays in the region book for which it's known. Would be cool to see Verpine, Ughnaught and Jawa for the tech book.

I'd probably use the Mechanic spec if I wanted to build a miner (bit of a fudge, I know, but I can't think of any unique "miner" talents that would see much use in-game).

For the Gladiator fight (was that on Taris?)... well, nowt to say Marauders can't wear armour. :D

Yeah, I'd use the mechanic now as well.

Those galdiator fights were on Taris indeed but most of them were ranged.... I don't know, they just didn't feel maraudery to me...

Yeah, they all had their own styles... maybe one spec isn't the answer then - chose whichever one suits your character's combat style and use "Gladiator" as flavour for your background.

I am not looking for a way to play a certain character... I opened a thread to make predictions on what could be in the books.

Either play along or move along! :D

I think Technician is the hardest one to expand as the original three specs cover a lot of ground in regards to character concepts. I think it'll be last so they are confident they get it right.

Would be cool to see Verpine, Ughnaught and Jawa for the tech book.

They must include Verpine with the Technician book; that's too easy to miss! I doubt the book would include both Jawas and Ugnaughts. For some reason, two silhouette 0 species in one book seems like an odd choice to me. Even though I prefer a Jawa species, I can see them being reserved for a Tatooine book or something like that. Maybe Quarren, maybe Bith, or maybe Arkanian because they are human-looking and known for being genetic engineers.

Even though Stay on Target hasn't been released yet, I wonder if there would be spec similar to the description for the Rigger spec. I also like the ideas I've heard for weapon smith, scavenger, droid builder, and bio-engineer.

I think Dante's onto something with the predictions. I think the Technician book would do well to include Scavenger and Armorer (weapon smith). Some sort of droid specialist would be good, too. Another option would be a Forger, who specializes in counterfeiting credits and documents.

For the Bounty Hunter specs, some sort of Investigator would make sense. I think a Trapper would be a logical choice, too, someone who catches bounties in elaborate traps. And maybe Pirate or Corsair for busting into ships and stealing stuff. I'm frankly surprised some sort of Buccaneer spec wasn't the third choice for Smuggler rather than Charmer.

As for species, I agree that Jawa, Ugnaught, and Verpine are logical choices for the Technician book. If they go with the Forger/Counterfeiter angle, Snivvians would be a good addition.

For the Bounty Hunters, I'd like to see Whiphid, Gamorrean, and Shistavanen. Saurin and Amani and would be interesting out-of-left-field choices.

I imagine Tech will be before Bounty Hunter because I don't see them breaking the combat non-combat pattern this close to the end. Which is a pity because if Bounty Hunter does have the Pirate/Privateer spec it will naturally have ships and data to support that spec and I would love more of that. Though the Hutt book will probably have a lot of pirate material to keep me content until the Bounty Hunter book hits.

Verpine, Jawa and Squib for Technician Book

While I play a Bounty Hunter, I really hope the Technician book comes out first. I want our Mechanic to have more "toys"!

I see technician book coming march april. an adventure in feb. and a region book in June July.

I'm hoping for more extensive ship modding rules, and maybe full scale ship design rule though those probably won't be until the AOR Engineer book, myself but I'll be happy with whatever order they come in. I'm still pretty sure that tech will be before BH though.

I'm hoping for Arcanians/Offshoots in the techinician book, but that might be more suitable for the Engineer sourcebook.

I still think that the bounty hunter specialties should be:

Repo - taking back starships

Slaver - capturing groups/individuals alive

Infochant - acquiring secrets/blackmailing

Species:

Zygerrians

Kyuzo

Ubese

Technician:

Scavenger/salvager - breaking down tech and loot

Maker (building/modifying droids - thank the maker!)

Armourer - making weapons and armour

Verpine

Ugnaught

Sugi

I am pretty sure there will never be a slaver career....

Love the "maker" though!

There's an assassin.

Many people never thought Hutts would be a playable species, yet they are on the horizon. Let's also remember that hutts are gangsters that deal in drugs and slaves.

I think Trapper is about as close as you can expect to come to a slaver spec. I would be floored if the Mouse greenlit a name like that.

I see a big difference between these two things... Being to play a race that has gangsters, slavers and drug dealers among them (which basically is all races) is not the same as actively encouraging playing a slaver.

No way on earth it will be a 'slaver', as 2P51 has said.

But I guarantee we will see a 'bring 'em back alive' Bounty Hunter.

Especially as the Assassin is already the 'bring 'em back dead' guy.
