Kyle Katarn, Nien Nunb, Blaster Turret, Shield Upgrade. With a proper escort, he can hold his own, jet out of an area and be fairly hard to kill. One shotting him is extremely difficult. I suspect an engine upgrade MIGHT be more useful however, but that does give one the problem of choosing focus or boost.

Best Horton: Horton +2 normal torps, R2 astro optional

Best Hobbie: Hobbie + EPT droid + Opportunist

Best Roark: Roark + ion

I have no idea as to what is truly overlooked because I've only followed my local scene and a ton of internet opinions Still, I'll try my best!

Don't expect anything too crazy, though. Imo, the best ships are those with minimal upgrades to allow more space for other ships (only exceptions being outliers such as the Phantom or YT-1300 who become far more than the sum of their parts)

Easy synergy to spot (marksmanship and Kath's ability trigger even on multiple attacks), just a bit expensive leaving only enough room for Howl and 3 Acadmies.

Mauler Mithel

Done ! (ran him with Whisper, since he's probably the cheapest PS 9 pilot in the game and having two four dice shots at PS 9 might actually let him live longer since it's better odd of his target not being around to retaliate )

Ibtisam

*Advanced Sensors (prefered for Focus) or FCS

Trying to stack stuff like opprotunist just makes her feel clunky and prohibitively expensive. I save Farlander for the offensive fun (though him I just run with Sensors and V.I, let him get stressed out on Manuevers), and leave Ibtisam as a surprisngly annoying to crack wall.

*Adrenaline Rush, if anything

Impossible not to make prohibitively expensive given his insane base cost, but I did my best This Ethan flies with Airen Cracken giving him PS 8 (ala Swarm) and access to more of those juicey E-wing actions and because the R7 astromech is such a troll especially if you stack focus/evades on top
