YT-1300 1-Turn Bump track

By Mace Windu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

just wanted to know what everyones thoughs on what the actual best tracking is to perform when you are doing a 1 Turn and bumping.

I have created this little drawing showing tracking paths through 4 different versions that I have come across.

As far as I can tell the External Nub Track seems to be the smoothest non-rotation option (though the internal front corner performs a little weirdly).

I usually go with the Pivot Rotation but have had others question me even though it seems to be the smoothest and certainly feels the easiest to perform, just find the rotation point and spin.

What is the general consensus among the rest of you?

I am actually intending on makeing a template of sorts, but knowing which one to make would be nice.

As far as I am aware there is no official statement as to how to perform overlapped moves?

Well the FAQ says this:

"When a large ship would overlap another ship, simply move the large ship along the template as normal, being sure to use the center of the ship’s base to estimate its correct position and orientation."

So I would say your example at the bottom would be the closest to achieving this. It's always going to be tricky due to the size of the base and the proximity of other ships.

The 5th picture below is a clarified version of the one above it, which is the worst of the lot as for that to be correct the ship travels dead straight for half a big base both at the beginning and end of the move which is not a particularly thematic for a hard turn.

Not to be dismissing your hard work here, Mace, but I'm not sure it's entirely necessary. Not even FFG expect us to get this completely right, since they straight up tell us to "estimate" the final position (which can veer into total guesswork in those situations where even putting the template down is impossible). As long as both players are satisfied with the final position I don't think we need to overcomplicate the issue.

Looking at what is practical and a do-able move I would go with the easiest but closest to the correct path possible.

I would use the pivot method. Pick a pivot point and roll on it, adjusting in a bit for the base, till it bumps. There will be times when your best guess will be as good as anyone else's.

It's not 100% correct, but then it will be close enough to work. I would adjust for nubs if I had the front or the back nubs visible over the template. Otherwise, its the best guess when in close to other ships and bumping occurs.

Pick a point and lay the one straight template and use its edge as the line. You can use another 1 straight to find the center of the big base and line up the edge with that center point. Pivot around a single point till you bump, then adjust for any visible nub overlay (which will be front OR back only).

Bloody brilliant. I might use that trick Sergovan. Falcons get kinda hairy sometimes. We like to be very precise with the maneuvering and all that so its really cool to see this thread. Will share! :)
