New Smuggler Book Announced!

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am hoping they don't use any species they have released so far. It devalues the books for those that have been purchasing all of them.

I am looking forward to it. It will be nice with Lords of Nal Hutta. I do hope they come up with some trade rules like Galaxy Guide 7 - Tramp Freighters.

Man four pages already. 8O

Guys, Guys, we are forgetting the Quintessential Species....The Ewok! Come on who wouldn't want to see a Smuggler Ewok who can fly an X-Wing...."YUB YUB Commander!"

We do need Ewok minions to kill. I think I may need to start working on that now. Mwa Ha Ha

Well, of course, Lancer999... The Ewoks are epic.

*shaking head*

Why they were included as a playable race in EVERY previous version of the Star Wars RPG is beyond me... Ha.

Well, certainly, I wouldn't want duplicates among the EotE line...

But if a species shows up in some random AoR supplement? And it's one of the "major" races we see throughout the Star Wars films, series, comics, etc? Well then, YES, I would like to see it duplicated in an EotE book. Absolutely.

I'm not planning on purchasing any of the AoR or F&D books.

So, again, I really hope more of the "major" races start appearing in these EotE books. Or we're given a generic sourcebook for aliens, starships, and the like.

I mean, where are the...

Mon Cal?

Quarren?

Devaronians?

Sullustans?

And even the...

Togruta?

Kel Dor?

Nautolans?

Cereans?

For all of you clamoring for the Falleen (much better as NPCs in this environment) or the Gotal? Geezus...

These are in F&D

Togruta?

Kel Dor?

Nautolans?

Cereans?

Mon Cal are probably in the Technician book along with the Verpine

Sullustans are in the Age Core book and likely the Smuggler book.

Though

I wonder if we'll finally get to see the Kesselian Blockade runners which were mentioned in the Return of the Jedi Novelization and a couple of EU novels?

We have talent decks and adversary decks. Why not do a Races of the Universe Deck(s)?

Otherwise a compilation would be gratefully received as to have them all in one place.

Ooooh, looking forward for the ship mods. My character is the proud owner (once I get it back from the Shipjacker that stole it) of a HWK-290 and want to see what lovely items are to be had for the Star Raven.

I'm thinking based on the art, Faleen, Gotal, and then maybe jaundice girl on the cover is a human variant or something else.

With the banner ad up now maybe jaundice girl isn't all that yellow. Looked kinda yellow in the article. So maybe human variant, Gotal, and Faleen look pretty likely I'd think.

Pretty sure the chick on the front is a female Faleen (eyebrows would suggest such). Given that the existing info isn't canon (other then what appeared in the Clone Wars), that's where I would put my money (That is if it isn't human, would be my first guess).

The Gotel is a high hope of mine, but it also could just be one of those random species in a picture highlighting the Faleen.

I also think sullestan, given that Nien was a smuggler in the movie.

Course I could always hope for Lepi too...

Just my .02

And here I just assumed that she was supposed to be from the space Philippines or something....

You know, kinda like how Shmi Skywalker comes from a Swedish planet?

Huh? In what insane universe is "Shmi" considered a Swedish name? It certainly isn't in Sweden...

Because she is played by a Swede

Looks great. The Specialisations look good - we knew 'Gambler' was likely, and to add to it we get 'shooty smuggler' for the Han Solo type tough guys, and 'talky smuggler' for those smooth Lando types. Covers all the archetypes of the career, I think.

...

So what species seem likely? Is there an 'iconic' smuggler race? The picture has a Gotal and a Falleen, right? Falleen are cool. I'd take that, and they seem fitting for a smooth-talking criminal character.

Thoughts?

So, you complained about munchkins that want four-armed critters and now that we get THE iconic EotE career book, people feel most exited about "official stats for YT-2000" and "more rules for 2 (Dual) weapons".

So, care to revise your munchkin criteria? ;)

No offense to the quoted - we all enjoy the game in our own way.

Couldnt she be Cathar? Or maybe the eyebrows are misleading me...

Maybe she's related to Hugo Weaving?

Oh, so it's like Obi-Wan is from a Scottish planet, then.

If planets can exist with only a single biome, it's not hard to imagine them patterned with mono-cultures too.

Well Corellia is space Texas.

The Specializations seem a bit odd to me. Charmer, Gambler, and Gunslinger all feel like more specific versions of the Scoundrel to me. I hope the overlap isn't too much, and I hope they still leave a solid role for the Scoundrel.

I was thinking about this, too. We can't know until we get the full write-up for the new specializations, but at a glance, these new specs seem to make Scoundrel irrelevant. Or, I suppose, they could be more specific versions of Scoundrel, which makes a Scoundrel character more of the jack-of-all-trades type of Smuggler.

If I were to stat someone like, say, Talon Karrde from Heir to the Empire, I would leave him as a Scoundrel. It might depend whether Leadership is a skill related to Charmer.

This is precisely what I meant when I said they should have named the career Scoundrel instead of Smuggler.

A gambler seems to fit the description of scoundrel a heck of a lot better than it does Smuggler, so does Charmer, as well as Thief...

I completely agree with that. As soon as I got to that page in the core rulebook I thought those terms should have been flipped.

I am just happy to see Gunslinger!

I am just happy to see Gunslinger!

Wonder how it will be different from the Marshall and how many talents it might share!

Yep, and career "Scoundrel" should have been "Con Artist" and the specialization "Pilot" should have been "Smuggler". But in the end that's only semantics, let's see what the new specializations are like.

As a Swede, I would love to see someone writing up the Swedish planet. It's always hilarious to see how other see us ^_^

Lots of wooden horses I guess...
