I think it's a good thing for the game, and for gaming in general, for any type of player to be able to open up a book and see themselves inside.

We're assuming, based on art in the promotional announcement, that two of the new playable species will be Falleen and Gotal. I'm fine with that; I've been hoping for Gotal for a while, even though I expected it to appear in an Age of Rebellion supplement first. However, if I could choose any three previously untapped species to represent the Smuggler career and new specializations, I would go with Farghul, Herglic, and Rybet. Lots of diversity in size, appearance, and demeanor, and for purely selfish reasons I have characters in mind for all of them.

Inner rim isn't an issue...I'm sure there's smuggling even on Coruscant.

As for Farghul and the like... the genius of E4 was that few if any of the non-humans really looked like earth-species-gone-sentient. They weren't cat-people, horse-people, dog-people, etc. Those only came out of the lesser minds of the EU. Instead we got Ithorian, Bith, and Talz...

I can understand the appeal of Falleen as an exotic species connected to a popular villain. It's the same thinking for including the Chiss, even though they ought to be unheard of during the Rebellion era. I think Devaronians should have appeared in Enter the Unknown instead of the Chiss because the Dev males are known for their wanderlust and travel.

If the Devaronians don't show up in Fly Casual, expect them in the Bounty Hunter book... or an Age of Rebellion supplement.

While I get your point--Ithorians and Bith are some of my favorites--the Mos Eisley cantina did give the Shistavanen "Wolfman".

I was hoping Gotal would show up in F&D, as the rangers... but all good either way. been wanting them. The others you mentioned: are any of them "official"? I don't think we have gotten any races that weren't official yet. No I take that back, we got Chiss in one, and those fur babies from the corellia book.

I'm thinking Devorian (if the gotal isn't in), can't see two horned species, but who am I? Talz would be awesome as well. It's probably going to be a sullustian reprint though.

I'd actually be surprised if we got any of those three. If you look at the species we've been getting, they've all been film species or species that have become iconic and widespread in the setting: the Chiss, and now (possibly) the Falleen. The exceptions seem to be the species in the region books, where choices are more limited (hence Ganks, Drall, and Selonians—but compare to Corellians, Sakiyans, Hutts, and Nikto).

In short, I don't think Rybets, Farghul, or Herglics have become iconic of the setting in the same way Chiss have. Herglic's the only one with more than a handful of appearances in legends stories. Keep in mind, I'm not offering a value judgment on those three species. I'm just using existing publications to wildly speculate about FFG's internal policies on species selection. Based on what we've seen, I think they'd lean toward something more prevalent in the legends line if they were going to go legends at all.

Looks great. The Specialisations look good - we knew 'Gambler' was likely, and to add to it we get 'shooty smuggler' for the Han Solo type tough guys, and 'talky smuggler' for those smooth Lando types. Covers all the archetypes of the career, I think.

As an aside, my girlfriend, the woman I hope to convince to marry me is a latina from peru (I am a Caucasian mutt, I have a lot of Europe in me, a quarter Irish a quarter polish, eighth italian, welsch, czech, 1/256 french, and a whole lot of others that I don't remember, I have the option of taking offense at either all or none European ethnic jokes, e.g. pollocks, I choose to take offense at none) and she looks wow to me (I prefer her skin tone to mine, she prefers my skin tone to hers, we're a pretty good match for each other, we both like Latin dancing, e.g Salsa and bachata, I am probably better at it than her [i've had professional lessons], she's a part time zumba instructor, full time nurse, but has a little trouble with turns when dancing with a partner)

And they are from a very respectable source like Kotor 2. Not the trash brain-farts books that too often popped up after RotJ.

Dark horse comics invented miraluka for the tales of the Jedi series of comics. So their source is no more respectable than the "dark empire" series of comics which is the post RotJ trash brain farts that you despise.

The Miraluka are great.

And they are from a very respectable source like Kotor 2. Not the trash brain-farts books that too often popped up after RotJ.

I do not like them at alll... They just seem extremely lazely "made-up"...
