New Smuggler Book Announced!

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

[...] And Flying through the air w/ 2 Guns Blazing is the John Woo Maneuver and YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!! My PC uses that move w/ 100% Success Rate! But you have to remember to smile at the end and put the Shiny Star "DING" w/ an action pose after you land!

Don't forget the doves.

The woman on the front is a human, plain and simple. Suggesting anything is is a stretch at best.

I asked the art department to confirm the humanity of the character on the front. Mainly because some talk could be construed as it's only human if it is aryan. Yes, that is a stretch, but the worse case scenario.

It's ridiculous to see her as anything but human.

One of the contributors on the book has liked both my posts saying she is human. I MUST be right :D

Looks great. The Specialisations look good - we knew 'Gambler' was likely, and to add to it we get 'shooty smuggler' for the Han Solo type tough guys, and 'talky smuggler' for those smooth Lando types. Covers all the archetypes of the career, I think.

:Marcy rant on:

(c'mon, you knew this was coming!)

Now, let's talk about species. Are we gonna keep scraping that barrel, FFG? What delights await us? Have you really scoured those cantina/Jabba's skiff/podrace crowd scenes, to give us something as hideous as it is obscure?

What races thematically suit the smooth Peter Quill daredevil career?

I'm calling it now: Lamproid, Amani, Laboi (look it up, I dare you!)

Seriously, FFG - can we have ONE species that my group will actually want to play? ONE species that might actually get a lead in a movie or a TV show, instead of just making up the numbers in a crowd scene?

FFS FFG.

:Marcy rant off:

Phew, I feel better now.

So what species seem likely? Is there an 'iconic' smuggler race? The picture has a Gotal and a Falleen, right? Falleen are cool. I'd take that, and they seem fitting for a smooth-talking criminal character.

Thoughts?

I don't have most the other books yet but I would like to see Farghul the most, clawdites, or weequay,

The Gambler tree MUST have the path

Unless they can throw Pykes in there.

Pykes? Oh boy. I have enough trouble keeping a straight face with "Nubians". Now I'm trying to refer to someone being a "Pikey"? And their a race with a propensity for smuggling? What is it with Star Wars and using real world / real world sounding names for races?

I think you haven't seen a lot of repeating because when the AoR core book came out a third of it was repeated from other books. Then when they came out with the Hired Gun book instead of taking the Saboteur from AoR they made the Demolitionist. I believe they changed that stance. I for one wouldn't want a splat book with repeated info from another book even if there is a special group of rare players that only buy into one of the Core book settings. Personally I think it's a fallacy that any group only chose one section of the game and didn't buy into every portion of the game. This is what FFG wanted .

Regardless of what FFG would want (and, OF COURSE, they want gamers/SW fans to spend more money on their products)... There are indeed gaming groups that don't care about the other lines.

For me? AoR is too much like what we've gotten in every other SW rpg. And F&D just seems wrong, as does Kanan and Ezra in the new Rebels series. As someone who grew up with the original trilogy? Kenobi, Yoda, and Vader were all that were left in the galaxy when it came to Jedi/Sith ... before Luke Skywalker, that is.

But a "Han and Chewie" game that wants you to play smugglers, bounty hunters, and non-Force-powered adventurers in the time between Revenge of the Sith and the '77 Star Wars? Perfect! The setting has reminded me of the joy I got from reading the Han Solo trilogy of books by Brian Daley in the early '80s.

(That said, I have also thoroughly enjoyed some of the newer Star Wars material such as the seedier elements from the Clone Wars, including Cad Bane and crew, and the John Ostrander comics that featured one of the best smugglers in the EU, Vilmarh Grahrk. So, yeah, FFG absolutely needs to include Devaronians in this new "Fly Casual" book.)

Anyway, just realize that there are indeed those of us who only care about one line of books. And we absolutely want all of the "major" races available to us! So at least a little bit of duplicate info is necessary.

Oh, and with all that said...

I also expect to see an Interdictor cruiser and Star Destroyer in this smuggler book as well.

I mean, come on! It's a book about smuggling, for God's sake...

Reminds me of when we played paintball and one of the guys had a backpack hopper for ammo. I asked him why and he responded, "Accuracy by volume!"

That is literally the philosophy behind the Air Force's use of the minigun.

Interesting thing is the minigun is actually more accurate than other machineguns. Mostly because it behaves more like a hose. You just direct the stream where you want and then everything hits that spot.

I agree that she's probably human, and took her as one at first glance, but I can see where the non-human guesses are coming from. I'd think it's a mixture of the eyebrows being a bit too narrow and pointed along with the yellow hues that her skin seems to give off. Heck, add some small ridges to her forhead and she looks Klingon to me. Most of the alien assumptions are probably just us being hungry for the content of the book and jumping to conclusions to the races contained inside based upon the artwork in the press release. We just want her to be a clue to the content so bad that we're seeing things that aren't there.

It's the same as the Far Horizon guesswork where we assumed the Marshal career would have two pistol usage because the guy on the cover has two pistols. Just good old fashioned jumping to conclusions with wishful thinking.

@Kaosoe...I did Forget the Doves...They come out during the explosion when I am posing, flying in slow motion!

BUT IT'S STILL MY MANEUVER!!

I would love to see Farghul included in this book.

Weequay are presented in the Hired Gun supplement, Dangerous Covenants.

I would mind a devaronian for a race and I hope in this book or the ace pilot book they devote some time to dog fighting mechanics. I would mind reference card for some ship as well.

Zeltron would be a good race as well.

What would make the YT-2000 "temperamental"??? YT-1300 has a speed of 4 right w/o the Ion Drive?? Or is it a 3 Spd...I don't have the book in front of me. Would they make the 2K 1 speed higher and instead of -1 handling, make it -2??

Would it have the same HPs as the 1300...6??? or More (I hope More)...Because if it is a good ship, I am definitely buying one!

I would like to see a dual blaster wielding tree because I would like a way that pistoleers can compete with their heavy blaster wielding allies and opponents.

My buddy plays a Droid PC who uses Heavy blasters, well 1 handed wpn, and we have this unofficial competition of who does the most damage, and he wins 95% of the time. Minion groups cower before him! Most of the time, they are dead before I even get a shot in.

As always, illustrations seems just spectacular :D

An the biggest enigma... we will know WHY a Hutt have Resilence 8! XD

But Groot only carries one gun...

LOL! So what planet are Latina's from?

I am so sick of people talking about race, I am firmly in the Morgan Freeman camp STOP TALKING ABOUT IT! Besides we're all playing a game with other species, what the heck does skin color have to do with anything? You don't like my Rodian because you hate green people don't you.

My cousins counts as canon latina? XDD
