I really want to know WHERE World's is.

By Itachi Uchiha, in UFS General Discussion

Is there any information on this event yet? I am going at all costs, and will have fun. Would someone please help find me the page if there is one about Worlds? Please and Thank you.

Thank you so much!

good luck getting hotels booked now, I called so many places close by and they are all full up... and charging out the BUTT for rooms T_T

If you want to stay close to the event, expect to spend over $1000 for your hotel room for the event, and you'll need to book usually by January/February if you want to stay within walking distance.

The rooms down town (walking distance) are all like really expensive hotels. GenCon books a bunch of rooms from those hotels and if you buy a badge you get access to book them through GenCon at a much lower rate. But that happens in like Jan and they go pretty fast. So if you try to book one of those rooms directly though the hotel it's going to be pretty expensive.

But there are some cheaper hotels within driving distance of the down town area. Two years ago I stayed at a pretty nice hotel that was only like 5 min or so drive from the convention center (wish I could remember what hotel it was). There are definitely cheaper places to stay within the area, you won't be able to walk though.

Plus, you can inquire within the forums as to who can go and have a spot to put another person.

Actually many of the hotels you can get better rates if you book outside of the gencon booking early... like October or November.

Just commenting from what we've done through personal experience over many years of going to Gencon.

or you know, you can stay at my dad's house like our group did last year for free, and it's only an hour outside Indy lengua.gif

also, check with some other people in our group that may be going.

US wacky michiganders rarely go more then 250 bucks deep per Trip to gencon, our most expensive trip at that.

Advice?

Get a hotel a little ways off the con. Dont be afraid to drive a few minutes to the con each morning but leave early as heck to get parking, and travel in group of 4-5 if you can pull it off to split costs. Eat around your hotel, not at the con, bring your own drinks to the con, and never EVER EVER EVER let Andrew Olexa give you advice in the dealers room.

Not so. There is a subway near by the Con. 5 dollar footlong can feed me twice a day and I'm saited (though I am lacking in body fat).

yeah. rooms for Gencon are tricky. If you go this year, as soon as you arrive, book a room for the following year. :)

This is insanely good advice. Too bad I don't have the discipline to leave the immediate intoxication area and the ritzy hotels before 3am... Not to mention the Steak and Shake waitresses, although they may look at you funny, are very good at holding 4am conversation pieces with Canadians.

Ummm... That was way too much information. Just listen to failed2k, also ^^ for anyone that cares, I managed through the firm to stick a suite early at a very close by hotel, and I don't have anyone to join me at the moment (well maybe a few crazy cowboy Calgarians, but seriosuly, the more the merrier).

Vermillian is so right, PLAN ahead. I tried to book Gencon in July after Origins last year, not cool.

My 2004 solution was staying with my good friend joe in a super cheap motel with like 7 other people. I think it was a Motel 6.

It was about 10 miles away, and walking distance from a Walgreens and a Steak & Waffles. Totally awesome weekend.

I am totally going again this year, but I think my Jillian's card is no longer usable.....bah. Anyone else up for a trip to the arcade friday or Saturday?

One of the things we do to save costs on food is get a hotel with a fridge in it. We get in Wednesday, make a run to Walmart, and buy groceries. It's amazing how much money 4-6 people can save on food by doing that.

I am thinking about going, but anyone want to split a hotel room? two beds or 1 bed and one on the floor, whatever... let me know.

Best eats = The one you cook/spread on bread yourself.

i remember this chinese buffet place that we ate at not last year but the year before it was amazing food and it was only like 6 bucks a person plus your drink it was pretty amazing
