Charagenda stolen

By Mitya, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi!

Lets say Quentin was stolen by Bara player, and this player has an Agenda. Quentin dies. What wiil happen --

1. Quentin is put in the owner's graveyard
or
2.Quentin becomes the owner's charagenda?

This is a very common question - and a confusing situation. The way to resolve it is to remember that all card text refers to the controller of the card.

So as the controller of the card, Quentyn will check to see if the Baratheon player has an agenda. If he does, then Quentyn will go to the dead pile of his owner (cards leaving play go to their owner's out of play area, unless specified otherwise).

If the Baratheon player does not have an Agenda (and the Martell player doesn't either), Quentyn will go on to become the Martell player's agenda.

Thank you.

Short answer: If neither player has an Agenda, Quentyn becomes his owner's agenda. In all other situations, he goes to his owner's dead pile.

Is there a reason why he does not become the Bara player's agenda, if he does not have one?

As -Istaril said, "cards leaving play go to their owner's out of play area, unless specified otherwise."

Since Agendas are not "in play," Quentyn needs to leave play in order to become an Agenda. That means he will always revert to his owner when becoming an Agenda. It's no different than his going to his owner's dead pile if he dies under someone else's control.
