First tournament - Imperials

By Swissdictator, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Off the top of my head, the only rule was no big ships. All fighters.

I'm definitely an Imperial fan going back to my days playing TIE Fighter in the 90s. So, of course, I played Imperials and brought my favorite fighter in the expanded universe: the TIE Defender.

My list was:

Delta Squad Pilot with Steal Device

Shadow Squad Pilot with Advanced Cloak

Two Alpha Squad Pilots.

I kind of opted for gear over pilots. I also wanted to try out the Phantom, and see if I liked it.

First game was a scenario for fun that was like playing football. Hit the target, the token is behind you. Get it to opponents deployment for a point.

I faced off against 4 X-wings. Wedge, Wes, and two other guys.

Only Wes survived, but I ended up seeing my squad destroyed.

Opponent got one touch down.

2nd Game

Fought rebs with Wedge and two B-wings with miscellaneous upgrades.

I killed Wedge in this game.

Third game was against Imperials, where I destroyed his squad.

I ended up 2nd place overall out of 6. I'm pretty proud for my first tournament. Especially since I brought the rebel terrorist Wedge Antilles to justice... twice. I was usually able to unleash a lot of damage, which probably helped my standings.

My thoughts, after my first tournament, is as follows.

The TIE Defender is solid. It's reliable and fun. It is rather survivable and has the ever so needed shields I find to be priceless. I love its non-red K-turn. Combined with a stealth device, it's rather durable as it can avoid getting damaged rather well.

The Phantom? Generic pilot doesn't seem to cut it with this. Maybe Echo works better. The problem is, if your opponent ever gets to hit you when you're not cloaked, your low maneuver is rather painful. Especially with it not taking as much punishment.

Alpha Squad Pilots? One good volley, and they're toast. However, they do bring decent firepower which can make a difference... especially at close range. I'm leaning towards these guys over regular TIE Fighters personally. Plus they're my favorite fighter from the movies.

The tournament was a lot of fun, with three good opponents. No stress, no drama. Even when I felt like I was on the downfoot, I felt like I could still fight on and get an edge. I've played a couple other games in tournaments, and this might be my favorite. Quick fun games, smooth play. Even if I lose a game, I will soon be playing a new one. I also got some better ideas of how I want to run my squads.

That sounds suspiciously like the tourney I played Sunday here in Rockford at What-Khan. lol.. we didn't face off, I had the TIE advanced (Vader) and 2 squints, all red painted.

It was a fun tourney, and the football game was more fun than I had anticipated. Gonna head down to Blackdog Tuesday for some games, just might be bringing my Decimator lol
