Preview of SW Armada Wave 1!

By Wraithdt, in Star Wars: Armada

Maybe she's a crew member. She doesn't necessarily have to be a commander of a ship. Besides she's in XWMG so go figure.

I agree. After reading her wiki she may be crew but not a captain. Same as Vader or hell even the emperor. Powerful? yes. Know how to command a fleet in battle? Not as well as the officers they pay to do it.

Now as a fun fact, if you look at the tokens and the command dial you can see that they actually changed the symbol of Concentrated Fire, I guess they agreed with the boards that it the previous icon was too similar to Squadron.

Nice spotting. I didn't realize that.

Wedge and Tycho! That's really exciting. I can see that I'll probably want to buy the core set plus both starfighter expansions. I'm assuming Howlrunner comes with the Core set, since it's clearly not any of the cards in the Imp starfighter expansion.

Makes me wonder how much the Imperial Star Destroyer and the MC series will be  I suppose around $60. But hey, that's why I have mini market.

I am really happy they base coated the fighters. They look so much better now.

Can't wait for the Gladiator. It looks awesome.

But why the heck are TIE Advanceds in squadrons of their own?

They're leaders of TIE fighter squadrons, they don't have their own!

I still don't understand, in a game that's drawing from the most obscure of gaming corners (both card and video games), they don't just get the Tie Avenger out there. I mean, I know the Advanced is "iconic," but it's a unique leader's personal starfighter, not something that was really intended as even a elite unit standard craft, as far as I can tell.

Although the Avenger was technically the Tie Advanced, just the mass-produced version of it, with some of the panelling gone from the X1. Still, models of the proper Advanced/Avenger would be nice, though this way there are only movie-appearing starfighters in the packs.

I'll be interested to see if we get other fighters in future waves.

I do not think we will see any EU fighters in this game. Capital ships sure, as we have allready seen but the fighters are not the main part of this game while the capital ships are. We have enough now to simmulate fighter squadrons in the game. Like in X-Wing, the large ships are all from the OT while it has plently of EU fighters. Just depends on the games focus. We might see a relase of a large expansion with like an escort for we can have more named pilots though.

As I have been told quite firmly, the Tie Avenger isn't the Tie Advanced - it has different armament, different chassis, and so on and so forth. :)

Yeah, it seems she does, since on the demo of the core set on Team Covenant's Youtube, she's very much in use there, as is Luke Skywalker for the Rebellion.

Hoping we can see the Avenger sometime in both X-Wing and Armada...

I do like the notion of TIE Advanced squadrons though. It was limited production but still a small production run, enough to equip some units. It ultimately never took off but I'm interested in running the limited production fighters in a fleet. Wonder how they stack up against the popular mainstays like the Interceptors, which ultimately replaced them?

Hoping we get a lot of Imperial Navy stuff before bounty hunters. None of them really excited me as much as Avengers/Defenders/Gunboats/Escort shuttles do.

I imagine we'll see bounty hunter/ Smuggler ships in the future lIke a Falcon or Slave 1. They'll probably be on a fighter sized base and work like fighter squadrons with special abilities...or as a new Freighter class...can't wait!

While I am very keen in seeing Iconic ships like the Falcon or Slave 1, I don't think I want to see them as a squadron either.

Perhaps they can come in individually as a 'new' class of ship in this game system [freighter class or something appropriate], about the size of a squadron piece but as a lone ship. As a game token they can add bonuses to the fleet and other squadrons, get additional special characters, or be used specifically to kill off enemy squadrons.

Yes, the abundant apperance of the Tie Advanced in Armada gives the impression that it was mass-produced. But it was not.

Just replace 2 of the Tie Advanced models by Tie Fighter models and you get a more elite squadron lead by an Tie Advanced.

This is what I will do to represent Vader leading his Black Squadron.

See the information that we base this off is now legends and no longer cannon... this means that we may see squads of tie advanced in the new books or 'rebel's' tv series. So while you all would have been correct a year a go due to disney you may not be any more... please don't hate me internet

Yes, I want a longer cannon!

Sigh. Stupid phone auto spell.
