Torkhil Mux, the A-Wing Test Pilot Killer

By TheWanderingMiller, in X-Wing

A-Wings with Test Pilot need to watch out and fly with both hands on the stick (both feet on the boost?) when fighting against Torkhil Mux!

Not only do they lose A-Wing Test Pilot but also one of the EPTs they have equipped. Against Arvel Crynyd or Gemmer Sojan, that happens to be their only EPT. Say good bye to Push the Limit!

Hopefully Jake Farrell and Tycho Celchu are experience enough to stay out of harms way ;)

That isn't how that works. Once something is equipped, it won't become illegal unless they lose the icon.

I'm not sure if this works. I would imagine that you only do the act of 'equiping' A-Wing Test Pilot during the squad building step. After that, I think it would stay on them regardless of any game effects that modify their PS.

Torkil activates at the end of the Activation Phase. Therefore, any actions taken prior to him using his ability (boost, PtL Focus/Evade, TL, will still be in effect. An extra EPT from test pilot like Predator, however, might be susceptible to this.

No. As long as A-Wing Test pilot can be legally added when building your list the double EPT's are fine. You don't lose something due to Torkhil's ability.

I derped. Thinking longer about that definitely makes me see your point.

Regardless if Torkil did have that effect or not, I doubt anyone would actually assign an EPT that would get Torkil'd (if it did work that way) to the test pilot card.

I.E. Natural Slot: Predator Test Pilot Slot: PtL.

I don't quite think that is how it works. - It may get FAQ'd as how would you determine which EPT is equipped with test pilot? Would you have to say before the game?

I think his ability just matters for The Combat phase so only effects Shooting.

Going by the logic "lol when they hit PS0 they just lose 2 upgrade cards" for the rest of the game is silly. Especially if it's the PS0 Crit as well.

I think his ability just matters for PS coming to order of shooting.

Would it be any different if the A-Wing in question received Damaged Cockpit face up?

Or used decoy to switch PS with a PS1 or 2 ship.

Would you loose the EPT for the round Torkhil Mux uses his ability?

No

Torkil has absolutely zero effect on whether or not you can "equip" or use EPT cards per A-Wing Test Pilot, since there is never a qualifier for having to maintain a pilot skill of 0 to use the card(s). It only matters when building your squad and nothing to do with in-game effects. Torkil does nothing to equipped EPTs or their usage unless they use pilot skill somehow (Swarm Tactics, Decoy, etc.), in which case the 0 PS comes into play.

The restriction on the A-Wing Test Pilot card just means you can't use it with the Prototype Pilot which is PS1.

Also the way it's phrased is "you cannot equip this card if your pilot skill is 1 or lower."

As long as your pilot skill was greater than 1 at the time Test Pilot was equipped, it stays put.

Does anyone think the 'or lower' part is confusing? Becauase I also contempated if this was how it worked when first spoiled. I firmly believe that equip means during squad building, and is not affected during play. But what a-wing has a natural PS lower than 1?

Also Royal Guard TIE shared the same wording. And I have never heard anyone ask this question for that card.

Edit: Nevermind, I see what you are saying now. I think they just use that terminology to be clear rather than some other phrasing that could be ambiguous. I don't ever expect a lower than 1 printed PS but this way it's clear.
