Mimicking the Culture (SW VII)

By DurosSpacer, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The original movie definitely picked up on the culture of the day with Han Solo talking about not "doing this for your revolution, sister" and the struggle of people vs materialism (Han's choice in the movie of either taking the money of fighting with the cause). It all had a 1960' & 1970's tint to it.

It seems likely that the current one will have a lot of self-centered millennial-thinking (entitlement attitudes) and New Age thinking (old people and their wisdom are dumb, It's ALL about YOU. self-focus brings enlightenment) , and moral relativism (Everybody has their own truth and two disagreeing people can both be right!) in it. What do you all think? What examples might we see of this in the film?

For example,

Personally, I think that in the first films the Force was a spiritual, God-like power that existed in the universe and showed up in magnitude according to however the powers determined it.

Using today's culture it might get twisted into it all depending on "the will of the individual" to master the Force (i.e. anybody can do it if they just try hard enough. The only limits you have are the limits you put on yourself. ----typical new-ager mentality.)

I sure hope not. Master Skywalker leading a New Jedi Academy with a new core way of teaching the Force. :)

Padawan: "I tried and failed, sorry Master".

Master Skywalker: "Fail not you did. You learned. Try again. There is no failure".

(Yoda's spirit form rolls over)

I think I could live with all that.

Padawan: "I tried and failed, sorry Master".

Master Skywalker: "Fail not you did. You tried, that is why you failed. Do not try again. There is no try. Just do it".

Fixed it for you

Yoda's spirit: Funny, that is not! *gives Luke a force wedgie.

Tl;Dr - and I woulda got away with it too if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.

But there are so many questions left!

will the third act be all about the young jedi listening to that hiptiy hopity music and the twonking dance?

will the characters spend the whole movie looking at their **** smartie phones with the instabook and the sexting or will they stop slouching and look up so we can see their pretty faces?

what does the OP think about his lawn and whether we should or should not get off of it!?
