Ideas for a competitive tournament list?

By Antikos, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I haven't really been playing a lot of X-wing, but we have a fun tournament coming up in my city and I thought why not participate.

I like playing rebels, and I learned the hard way that the only way for me to deal with the phantom is to use highly mobile high PS pilots (I know there are other ways, but this worked best for me).

So the two lists I quite enjoy playing are:

100 Points

38 points
Keyan Farlander
Fire-Control System, Push the Limit, Engine Upgrade
12 points
Bandit Squadron Pilot
25 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #1
Advanced Sensors
25 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #2
Advanced Sensors

99 Points

33 points
Jake Farrell
A-Wing Test Pilot, Proton Rockets, Push the Limit, Outmaneuver
29 points
"Hobbie" Klivian
R3-A2, Flechette Torpedoes
25 points
Tarn Mison
R7 Astromech
12 points
Bandit Squadron Pilot

Although I might switch out Hobbie, since he didn't really do much and I haven't yet figured out to use the stress mechanics properly.

Alternatively, I'm trying to find a list that I could fit Corran in, since both he and the E-wing are two of my favourites.

Any comments on these list? Are they somewhat competitive?

Any other lists you could recommend? I have at least one or two of most small ships, and one of each large/huge ship.

My main goal is to have fun, but I don't want to be completely steam-rolled either.

My .02

If you have another B-wing then I would suggest this

Farlander - FCS- PtL (34 pts)

Blue x3 (66 pts)

I played a similar list at my last tournament and did well, but watch out for swarms

If you're relying on Jake to be able to catch that Phantom and deliver his Prockets you are going to be in for a rude discovery. I've been running Jake with VI, PTL, and Prockets and he simply cant keep up with phantoms. Echo he can trash but Whisper just flits away, or says to hell with it and goes for the head to head at R1, depending on initiative. A Buzzsaw Whisper will knock Jake out of the sky(space?). I've switched to Tycho with VI and PtL as my Procket Delivery Device (PDD). Can keep up with or out juke phantoms and doesn't care about rebel captive.

Unfortunately I only have three B-wings. Did you face any phantoms with that list TOORS?

Thanks for the advice Potter. I was using Jake because he can barrel roll and boost. But I can see the problem with PS9 Whisper. The guy I'm playing most insists on playing Echo without VI. So it was never an issue so far, but I guess at the tournament there will be tougher lists. Haha, maybe it's just a crutch I'm using and I should learn to be efficient by just using boost and the A-wing's natural manoeuvrability.

I really like using named pilots. I made a few attempts to fit both Jake and Keyan in a list, but then I feel I'm lacking the numbers.

Yeah, last couple games i ran Keyan and Jake, and 1 other ship or two Z's. And i just get minced if they have a swarm or mini swarm. One of the other guys runs Jake with Chardaan, Ptl and Outmanuever, 2 B's with gunner and fcs, and a Bandit. Hes been doing very well with that. I haven't seen how he handles a Phantom with that, but the Bwing combo is simply murderous.

A combination of your two suggestions resulted in this list:

100 Points

33 points
Tycho Celchu
A-Wing Test Pilot, Proton Rockets, Veteran Instincts, Outmaneuver
37 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #1
Fire-Control System, Heavy Laser Cannon, B-Wing/E2, Gunner
30 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #2
Fire-Control System, B-Wing/E2, Gunner

Or the alternative:

100 Points

28 points
Tycho Celchu
A-Wing Test Pilot, Chardaan Refit, Veteran Instincts, Outmaneuver
12 points
Bandit Squadron Pilot
30 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #1
Fire-Control System, B-Wing/E2, Gunner
30 points
Blue Squadron Pilot #2
Fire-Control System, B-Wing/E2, Gunner
