Strategy Session 4: Fat Han + 3 Talas vs Whisper + 1 AP

Here's a hard spot to come out of but it's the strategy of surviving for as long as you can while still trying to eek out the comeback that I'm looking for.

You are flying Whisper and you have 1 AP left.

Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS + Rebel Captive; 1 x Academy

You are facing a Fat Han + 3 Talas.

Han Solo + Predator + C-3P0 + R2-D2 + MF + Engine Upgrade; 3x Tala

The game is not going very good for you right now.

How do you pull out the win?

BTW, your in Morgan's shoes playing against Paul Heaver.

Here is for the next round: pic2300301.png

I liked Morgan's strategy at this point. Distance yourself from han and try to pick off talas. He just had a horrific roll on 5 greens vs 3 hits. That pretty much sealed it.

I was intrigued woth the possibility of trying to run han off the board with some fancy blocking, but that would have required a pretty big mistake on behalf of the defending world champ.

Just wanted to say that while I don't comment on most of these threads, I really enjoy them. Keep posting these.

I think picking off the Talas is the better play but it's tough to do that while dodging a Falcon. Stack the odds in your favour and hope for the best.

Morgans next move with with his phantom was superb. Uncloaking and blocking Han and taking out a Tala.HO

is next move was surprising as he had a chance to run into the asteroid field but he opts to do a 1 turn?

He survived but is killed the next turn. Boy the odds were very much stacked against him. He needed to catch some luck to mount a real comeback. Was a fantastic game to watch play out.

It was the baiting by Paul to split Han and the Talas and Morgan going after Han in the asteroids. Everyone ALWAYS goes for Han.

Everyone completely forgot about Rebel Captive.

I think a bigger game turner was much earlier when Paul managed to not hit the asteroid by about a mm after the 4 forward and then boost out of arc of the entire swarm that were all in position to throw down some close range hurt. They were then facing the wrong way and got shot up by the Talas.

They did not forget about Rebel Captive, Paul didnt shoot Whisper until the game was almost over.

I agree about the opening run through the asteroid field as probably the most important move of the game. I think I would have gone after han at that point, but it left Morgan in a tough spot either way.

It did seem to me like Morgans green dice were a little sub par this game, but then again I always think greens are sub par :)

My strategy: shake Paul's hand and walk away.

There really was nothing Morgan could do at this point. Every move would leave him open to more fire. His one option, the option he took, was to attack and try and thin the Talas.

Even then, he was lost as 1-1 vs a near full health Han with R2-D2 and C-3PO is a losing proposition.

Paul plays the long game, I've seen him play many times and have played against him. His other great advantage is he plays ALL the ships in the game and knows well what each can do and so has a grasp on what his opponent can do.

The opening moves in this game were classic Paul, luring his opponent to chase Han, knowing full well that he was going to be able to escape and drop the hammer in a pincer move with the Talas.

Paul is a strong player with a variant of the strongest list in the meta in his hands and Morgan's list was at a disadvantage from the opening few moves.

Great game, great to see to awesome players vi with each other and congrats to Paul.

Concede and go drink some beers.
