Mablung Showcase Deck: For Gondor!

By Gwaihir Lord of the Winds, in Strategy and deck-building

Good day travelers of Middle-earth! This is Gwaihir, Lord of the Winds. I am pleased to present to you a new deck I've been using in the Voice of Isengard and Ring-maker cycle featuring the new hero Mablung, along with the Wingfoot attachment. I paired him with Leadership Bormomir along with the guard of the citadel, Lore Pippin himself. This is a thematic deck that does a very good job at questing, attacking, and defending. It is primarily geared for solo play, but pairs well with a Spirit location control deck. I will be releasing some videos pretty soon that shows our new hero in action. But for now, here is the deck list to whet your appetites.

Can't wait to see the video and see how this works out. I find it interesting how many 1x and 2x cards you have (especially attachments), but your card draw is somewhat limited. I also find it interesting that the deck is call "For Gondor", but you only have one copy of that card in it :P

Make sure to post the video of it here.

Yes, it does have quite a few 1 copy and 2 copy cards in the deck. I only use one core set, so cards like Feint, Sneak Attack, Secret Paths, Horn of Gondor, Steward of Gondor are limited because of that. The only attachment I need to see in the opening hand to do well is Visionary Leadership, and so I include 3 of it. The others are great to see show up after a round or two, but not as essential. As for card draw, Lore Pippin, Daeron's Runes, and Deep Knowledge seem to be working fine. Also, there is sneaky Gandalf to provide 3 cards if need be. So not that much of a problem to draw the cards. Lastly, I wasn't going to include "For Gondor!" but just felt like it was needed for thematic reasons. It can be powerful at the right situation, but not essential.

That will be cool to see your videos with that deck.

This looks pretty cool! I myself would like some more trackers, but that's probably just because I like the art on them so much...

How are the ship captains in this deck? Do you find them useful? And would it be good to add more trackers in this kind of deck?

Thanks!

I was deciding between the new Herald of Anorien and the Ship Captain, and decided with the Captain. He has good stats paired with Visionary Leadership and Boromir's ability. However, the two hit points he has are great against treacheries and archery. The Captain also is good to send a resource back over to Boromir when he enters play, since having at least one on Boromir is vital to the deck. I have never really used the Ship Captain, but thought if he is ever going to be used, this is the deck to use him in. I have found he has been quite useful to my surprise.

I only put in one Tracker because his ability does not stack (i.e., only the first enemy is reduced to zero) and also because I do not pile too many resources on Pippin. I really like his art as well, and also the fact that he has 3 hit points.

Here's the new video post with the Mablung deck:

Cool playthrough. Thanks for posting! :)

I took your deck as an inspiration for a tri-sphere Gondor deck that I took to the Massing at Osgiliath today. Despite early problems with willpower and combat abilities, things eventually went pretty well and I managed to defeat the Witch King (after a few tweaks and restarts, that is). Definitely a cool deck to showcase Mablung, keep up the good work!
