Trench Run

Grats on a great win for Mick, I met him when I traveled to MN for a regionals\.

Question that this raises though, is Trench run the new Dash/Freeholders, or did he just have a great deck that caught everyone off guard?

Great deck and player that caught everyone unawares.

I heard that it isn't a very easy deck to play. You have to be very patient and work on controlling the board, rather than being too aggressive. I don't think it's an auto-win deck like Freeholders. In this deck, you have to make sure you have a free shot at the death star, cause otherwise they will just block and shut you down.

In no way is it an easy deck to play, and although they didn't have trench run, I have played against Shield Jedi and just controlled the board before they could, but then again I don't play sith, and everyone else has. I play a Navy and a Scum deck, and they don't really need a free shot. if they spend all of those shields for blast icons, it won't matter if they are blocked or not.

I just don't know how I feel about it, never been a huge Jedi or Sith fan, so maybe that is why? Regardless, It was a monster deck and Mick deserves so much credit for having the balls to play it and catching so many people completely off balance.

It's a swarm style deck that happens to be a great counter to the heavy Sith control style. While I don't have any personal experience against it, my gut says a fast Navy would have a decent shot at racing it.

Sith has tools to help against it, but some (Force Shockwave and Force Storm) are expensive plays and most are prone to the counters available in Ferus and Threepio. Oddly enough, even though many worlds decks were running Tatooine Crash, I don't think I heard of any Utinnis capturing Asteroid Base, which seems like it would disrupt a key part of the combo. The upcoming Flamethrower in BtS would maybe be a helpful bullet addition as well.

Mick Cipra himself already noted on the forums here just the other day that a Navy rush type of deck would do pretty well against his Trench Run deck.

Oddly enough Superior Numbers in a TIE fighter deck was the only thing that I found that really gave my trench run deck a run for its money. If the trench run deck doesn't find an early Yoda or Rebel assaults and TIE fighters trigger it can be 4 objectives on DS's third turn and game over man. GAME OVER.

The post I mentioned.
