$60 for Slave I?

By kaptainkrutch, in X-Wing

Oh no! You've uncovered my plan for world domination!

I've cleverly been building an on-line profile to get you all to lower your defense, pretending to have already waited 3 months for a resupply that still doesn't appear to be any closer to happening. I was going to use my money to bribe JJ. Abrams into including over 40 minutes of Jar Jar footage in Episode 7, causing widespread outrage bringing Hollywood to it's knees!!!

And I'd have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dog!

I would look at it differently. It's going to be at least 2 months before you see these back in stores (though I'd recommend checking local gamestops and B&Ns first). Essentially you are paying 50 cents a day for the thrill of having the Firespray zipping around your table now.

I think it's well worth it, but I'm clearly in the minority.

Worth it? $60? For a 6cm long piece of painted plastic at, what, 300% of its normal price? Even RRP is fairly steep.

I'd say don't buy it on sheer principle, let alone because the price is silly.

That would only be true if you used it every day. If you play once a week, it's more like $2 per day.

Yes, a 6cm long piece of plastic that I literally couldn't get anywhere else (and it's 200% of retail). Oh, and a heavy laser cannon and stealth device because you know, the cards can't be purchased separately.

I can't fly principle around the table. You know the people who say "don't buy it on principle"? They're the ones that already own one. $30 extra is nothing, I'm sure some of you spend that much a week on Starbucks/cigarettes... I'd rather have the piece of plastic :)

Still not regretting it :)

Wait!!! I think I found one on-line for $121

I guess it really boils down to whether or not you want to wait. Yes we don't know when they'll be in stock but you know better than us if you'll be disappointed to spend twice (or more including freight, etc...) and then have it come out a lot cheaper.

As long as it's not your lunch money then hey It's a game, what is it worth?

Exactly, Ken. I'd waited 12 weeks, and I'd be damned if I was waiting another 8 to 10! Now if it shows up tomorrow in stores, yeah, I'll feel like a sucker. But I'm going off the limited information that's available. That information says, not for awhile longer.

Still not regretting it :)

If you think it was worth it, good for you. :) I mean $60 for a Firespray is more than I'd pay for one, but then again I have one. :)

It all comes down to how much it's worth to you to have the ship now rather than later.

$60?!?!?! There are some at my local Barnes & Noble. Makes me want to go buy one and sell it for $40! How much are they normally?

If you sign up for BN email promotions, you get a 15% off coupon regularly, making their price, $25.50, roughly.

Retail is $29.99, when MM has them they are $19.99!

Yeah, I ordered my Tantive through MM and that's like $35.00 cheaper than what I've seen in stores. I truly like supporting my LGS, so I've bought most of my collection retail from them even though I know I can get it cheaper on-line. Owner seems like a genuinely nice chap, and it's really nice having a store a quick drive away.

Same reason when I bought my patio door through home depot I paid a local contractor to install instead of having Home Depot do it. This firespray was simply supply and demand, there was no supply here. :(

$30 extra is easily enough for two of them if not three.

Waited half a year for the TIE interceptor reprint actually.

These eBay listings are explicitly there to exploit this sort of shortage and exploit people that either have money to burn, so to speak, or screwed up priorities. Thus I'd never buy a ridiculously marked up anything unless it was something I actually needed. I'm not willing to pay double to triple the RRP to get a luxury item sooner.

It's not as if you need a Firespray to play X-wing. I'd wait for either the reprint or a sensible eBay listing.

Plus buying this stupidly marked up ships is providing demand for stupidly marked up ships, encouraging people to buy to sell at silly prices like this, which contributes to the shortage in the first place.

EXACTLY!!!

The same thing has been happening with rimfire ammunition as well! I tell both XWing players and shooters to be patient and wait for normal sources to get stock, BUT never pay the inflated prices because it is causing the issue of availability!

Are you sure it's me driving availability issue, and not the guy with 5 Ties, 5 Interceptors, 5 Phantoms, 2 YT-1300s? Seems kind of hypocritical to buy up that much supply at normal prices and then cast stones at me for overpaying for the leftovers, saying I'm responsible for the limited availability. I may have missed your point, though.

FFG didn't produce enough product on the last run, and they don't have the capacity to churn out more anytime soon, plain and simple. I'm sure with the holiday season coming up, they are absolutely kicking themselves over this. It is what it is, sir.

As to the guys with multiple ships, thats what is suppose to happen! You buy what you play with! If you are specifically using my numbers, I provide ships for myself and my son and we play 150 pt matches, so I literally have no spares!!! Actually we are short a few ships for some builds, most guys have at least 8 Ties for swarms! :P

I see it all as a sign of the wild success of this game (or really conservative production decisions on FFG's part). China isn't suffering a plastic shortage is it?

So, let's rejoice about the $60 Slave I.

Now, as a Dutchman, I'd blanche at the thought of paying $60 for one, but I was fortunate to have been generously given my Firespray.

My local b&n had two on the shelf today

You will all wait til March 2015... like the rest of us!
