Fateless characters and woodland cards

By bushaaya, in Talisman

So I'm not really clear on how Fateless characters should be effected by woodland cards.

The rulebook says that they must resolve the the lower effect.

does that mean that if the card has white fate effect and under it a dark fate effect, they should act on the dark one?

also, we found that going into the woodlands while unbound, reduces the risks of the region by a lot. totally unbalanced with the rewards you might get if not unbound.

what do you think?

has anyone made any change to those mechanics?

Yes, it means you resolve the lower fatebound effect, which is the worst one on most cards (but not all). Beware this is not valid for Objects, Followers and Spells.

While unbound, usually you don't receive penalties caused by fatebound cards, but don't receive rewards as well. Most important of all, you cannot use Objects, Followers and Spells with fatebound abilities while unbound.

How many games did you play with the Woodland to come to such a conclusion? My opinion is that it's always worthy to be lightbound or darkbound, even though it's a bit of a gamble because you don't know what you will draw. Mask of the Moon helps a lot in the process of always being at the right side, but it's worthless if you are unbound.

Hey Warlock, thanks for the reply.

The ideas was that while inside the Woodlands region, it is much better to be unbound. You can cruise through the region, collecting all the goodies and possibly a destiny card as well, without most of the region's risks, and then get out of the region, become light/darkbound and use all the collected stuff.
