Famous Battles of "Star Wars"

By Aluminium Falcon, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Another thread got me thinking...

Has anyone set an adventure during any of the famous battles seen in the movies? Yavin, Hoth, Endor, etc?

Specifically, with the notion that the ultimate outcome cannot be altered.

You had me until 'cannot be altered' :)

But good idea for a thread. Unfortunately, it all turned out differently for us (Luke never joins the Alliance so the Death Star doesn't get blown up).

The Arda I adventure felt a LOT like the retreat from Hoth for us.

Hey, I know the Bothan spy who stole the death star plans, of course they all say he died. But, that was just to get the Imperials from hunting him down, he has a crack team, they hide in the fringe and help people. You need help buddy?

"g[u9obiyfcvg" - Hits head on keyboard and runs off to that other thread.

Yes, I have/Will . I make it a point every game to simply call out Time from ABY0. Our game started 6 months ABY.

I am currently running a game where i am directing the players at some point in the campaign to Echo Base On Hoth, bringing in supply's.

They may not know its Echo Base as they will be landing at one of the other hangar locations away from the base by a short distance. They will know they are on Hoth though. If they are paying attention they will know that moment is close. We are currently at ABY1.2

The setup,

They will be unloading all their supply's when the attack happens.

They will not be able to leave immediately due to the blockade.. Ion Cannon primary systems are powering up.

THey will be asked to take technical crew off world to Rondevous point.

THey will also be contacted by Genal Rieeken to Transport a sensitive target so wait...

They will then be contacted By Capitan Solo with the famous line

.."Transport! This is Solo, I cant get to you. You better take off i'll get her out on the Falcon."

(what transport was he talking to? ..MY PC's transport!...WOOT?)

AS the climax...

They will have to fight their way past several squads of snow troopers then go to the surface and cross several hundred meters of snow terrain to finally make it to the hangar and again engage several snow troopers who have entered the base and occupied the secondary hangars where the PC ship is at.

IF the players lolygag and waste time .. I will have an ominous black clad figure move among the dust and debris behind the troopers line.. approaching. That should get them moving.

As a Center piece of the battle i will have An AT-AT walker dropping off 4 Troopers at a time (1 group of minions). ITs guns will be focused off map at something important. But There will also be an AT-ST.

This whole Scenario will be played out using Star wars miniatures and the three map layout of hoth stetch out along the whole table to truly reflect the long run the players need to make.

THis event is a campaign center piece i hope they will love.

I had a group of players several years back who really wanted to stay true to canon, and were committed to playing "behind the scenes" characters.

I didn't have them play at any of those battles (although they did help the Rebels evacuate from Yavin IV), but they did participate in the first Battle of Geonosis.

This is what I've liked doing in the past. Not what we saw on screen, but what was just off the edge. The players are thus still involved with the pivotal screen moments, but there aren't too many rails to deal with.

I usually go the route of the PCs as "Heroes of Another Story", in that their actions can be important be are separate from big movie/EU plots. The only canon Rebel they've interacted with is Crix Madine, and that was a brief conversation over a communicator when he told them to back off after started to get close to accidentally blowing an agent's cover.

How did you deal with Endor? As a space focused party avoiding clashing with canon should be easy IMO. A ground party would make it much harder to pull that off though.

Remember the AT-AT walking around the landing platform on Endor? Where was it when the hero-led Rebel commando team infiltrated the shield bunker?

Also, the Emperor said, "A legion of my finest troops await them", on Endor.

Where did those forces go? The team that infiltrated the bunker and blew up the shields only faced a couple AT-STs and perhaps a company of Stormtroopers (at most).

The infiltration team was only half of the mission. There was also the distraction team that pulled a majority of the heavy forces out into the jungle to give the infiltration team a chance. PCs were the distraction team.

You mean Yavin? It was an extraction, yeah. I actually gave them the option to run a ground mission, but they just wanted to get out of there :) So they flew off with some Alliance personnel on their freighter to rendezvous with the fleet. Lots of complications, etc. Got to rub elbows with Wedge, Leia, Luke, and Jan Dodonna, among others. Fun times.

No I meant when the time for the Battle of Endor came how did you deal with it? The actual battles of Yavin and Hoth only involved small, though vital, portions of the Alliance's forces. Campaigns that wanted to avoid the movie battles could easily have the party elsewhere at at that time. But Endor involved basically everything the Alliance had.
