What about the E-Wing?

By Norsehound, in X-Wing

I can run Blues with HLC's that hit for two crits every turn! OH MY GOOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!

I thought that HLC's could never crit, even with Etahn?

The HLC text to change crits to hits is immediate and occurs first. Then you can modify the dice however you normally would, including rerolls into crits or Etahn / Mercenary Copilot, etc.

Yep aslong as the effect happens after the initial roll it's okay, re-rolls using TL also let you keep the crit.

Thinking about it Accuracy Corrector could prove to be strong on A generic E-Wing. It allows you to use your actions defensively while 'bad rolls' can be fixed via AC. Blackmoon's have access to PTL (R2D6) and seeing F+E on a 3 Agility ship calls for Focus Firing on it or something with higher priority.

Nice, had totally forgotten R2D6 droid exists. I can now get my fav combo twice in a four rebel ship. I'll proxy (don't have transport) and let you know how it goes :)

Etahn A'baht — E-Wing 32

Push the Limit 3

Advanced Sensors 3

R2 Astromech 1

Blackmoon Squadron Pilot — E-Wing 29

Advanced Sensors 3

R2-D6 1

Push the Limit 3

Tala Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 13

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12

They're also the best vehicle for R2-D2.

Take an Alpha Squadron interceptor (and pretend you can do this) + Sheild + Hull and then make them spend even more points in the amazing systems and Droid slot and then go ahead and make their dial a bit worse and you see why the Ewing doesn't cut it. You can do the same with the avenger squadron pilot.

Hopefully this also tells you why interceptors still aren't "Great".

E-wings are interesting and flexible but probably paying way too much to be so

It is because they are horrendously ugly.

I love the look of the E-wing

I don't get it..

But then again, some people juggle geese.

I can juggle a lot of things, but I have never tried to juggle geese. But they do poop a lot in our parking lot at work.

Generally the point cost is what keeps E-wings a rare sight on the table (in which they should be).

For a Knave pilot you end up spending 6 points more for 1 more agility and an option to use evade and a lower pilot skill.

However when you take a look at it ask yourself what is it that a single E-wing can do that an X-Wing can't? The only answer is well evade turtling but that does take allot of fire power off of your side in the damage race. With a X-wing you got about the same maneuvers (just a little different on the greens) you have the same health, and the same firepower. So saving yourself 6 points for a rookie allows you to put in more to your other squadron.

I like the Accuracy Corrector idea for the generics.

I've also considered spamming Knaves with FCS and R7 Astros, for a build that can provide both offense and defense.

I don't and will probably never own 3x E-Wings, though.

Vessery isn't hard to trigger really if you give him VI, rexler is going to trigger less often but when he does its pretty devastating and fleet officer will let him trigger far more frequently.

Yeah, I'm already seeing Rexler/Vessery alongside a Shuttle and an Interceptor quite regularly. The arrival of Fleet Officer is going to make this combination even better...

Back to the E-Wing, though - I WANT to like them, but at the moment I'm having mixed results. They seem to need quite a bit of investment to get the best out of.

That's kinda the problem isn't it you need an astromech, and you probably want to take sensors and by the time you have them set up you may as well use the named pilots and get the PS advantage.

Generics are overcosted by about 3 points? (Major Juggler)

Corran is pretty decent though. And he can be VI'ed to PS10 to hunt Phantoms.

I don't see how they are over-costed, for 6 points more than a rookie you get:

+1 green dice

Evade action

Barrel roll action

Sensor slot

Trades a hull for a shield

Slightly better dial

At the cost of -1 PS and +6 points

Seems like a good deal to me

I think the main reason is the 'better dial' is a 5 foreward, and more green moves, the 'Sensor slot' is usless unless you sink *more* points into an already expensive ship. So the only benefits over a rookie is the Evade+Barrel roll, and the Sheild over Hull, which isn't *that* geat. and that 1PS means you take a Defender/Fighter/whatever off the board before it shoots you. 1PS if a much bigger differance at the low end than in the Mid ranges.

The E-Wing is overcosted but hella fun to fly, other than that, what about it?

Hand to God: baby geese. Goslings--they were juggled!

Sensor jammer blackmoons do just fine for me. Negates predator and minimizes FCS. If you block ships, its a for sure hull upgrade for each attack. People misjudge the E wing and by the time they have realized their mistake, they already sunk to much fire power into them. I enjoy them and don't find them over coated at all.
