ROTATION!

By MacRauri, in Star Wars: The Card Game

That was also my one thought - many of the Core/Deluxe pods have seen nearly constant play since release (Palpatine, Vader, Counsel, Luke, Han, Falcon, Chewie, Motti, etc). Does this mean that Sith Control is always going to be the default DS go-to deck in any rotation? Are we always going to see Sleuths sprinkle into the meta?

Granted, it's sooooo far into the future that it is too late to draw any conclusions, but we run the risk that enough Core/Deluxe sets get released that the cycling force packs add little but flavor to the meat and potatoes of the static expansions.

You know, I was going to math out some ratios for you, but then decided that a better argument was this.

Of the 20 objective sets our world champion brought with him to play, twelve were from the Echoes of the Force cycle. Exactly half of the runner-up's objective sets were also from Echoes of the Force.

This is after Echoes of the Force required the implementation of the first Restricted List ever, and required errata to break apart the Force Lock deck.

Mick's DS deck even contained zero copies of Fall of the Jedi or Counsel of the Sith. I remember when those two objectives and The Emperor's Web formed the Unholy Trinity. While the rest of the field proves that they aren't obsolete, they also are no longer a competitive necessity.

This is with only two Force Cycles in the card pool. Rogue Squadron promises to bring back Vehicle decks in style, and we can only guess what the Cycle after that will bring. As long as the Force Cycles continue to open up whole new avenues of play, I'm certain they'll continue to shape the meta. The existence of the non-rotating Core just means that they won't dictate the meta.

I reserve all judgment about rotation until we get much closer to it actually happening. I'm not opposed to it in principle, but there's no real way for me to be sure one way or the other whether it will be necessary. I do wonder if this will slow down the deluxe set releases given that they never rotate.

By the time rotation comes, FFG can alter the deal for what's best for the game by then

Well, my POV

1) I dont play tourneys so I dont care about Rotation

2) Gives me more reason to buy early packs like Hoth now, even if Im tempted to skip em because eventually they'll go out of print

3) It's 4 friggin years from now ....

Collector's impulse ;P
