Era in question

By spectre113, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I have seen the question of why not clone wars pop up a few times in the forums here and, rather than start a whole new topic on someone else's thread, I decided to post my thoughts here.

I doubt we will see clone wars support for a long time. Right now, the focus seems to be original trilogy to lead us into next December, when episode VII is due for release. Very likely, this will be followed by episode VII stuff. Finally, after that has run it's course, then we might see a return to clone wars.

Why would they leave that era untouched? First off, clone wars is not a focus of disneys campaign for advertisement. Their games would stand alone. Second, the prequel trilogy is generally disliked by fans and casual moviegoers alike. It is true that the clone wars series was better liked, but nothing like original trilogy stuff. Finally, there is nothing motivating such a radical change. The original trilogy stuff is selling great and has very positive reviews.

On the other hand, they might be launching all of this stuff to build off each other's popularity and, once they have run their course, they will launch another, mutually supported, series of game systems. Maybe that's why they timed the RPGs like they did.

But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

I would agree. And honestly we've just had well over a decade of Clone Wars. I would expect the franchise to spend some time somewhere else for a bit. I know for a lot of the new guard CW Era is their Star Wars but I think once the new movies hit everyone will be ready to dive into that timeframe product-wise.

I grew up with the Original Trilogy.

My grandfather took me to my first movie at 7 years old.

That movie happened to have, after an opening crawl, a fleeing Rebel Blockade runner being chased down by a Star Destroyer that went on forever . I instantly knew who the bad guys were. I instantly fell in love.

I have run multiple campaigns, on three continents, some nearing 20 years long in semi continuous gameplay, others well over a decade, a few barely a year long.

In almost all instances these were played in the Original Trilogy era. From the time right before the Battle of Yavin to a few years past the the Battle of Endor. The events of the Thrawn Campaign being the furthest in the timeline I have chosen to run, and the Dark Stryder campaign which preceded that being the only exceptions advancing the timeline further from the events of the movies.

To me, the Original Trilogy IS Star Wars.

Same here. I was 5 when that first Star Destroyer crawled across the screen. Game changer.

Discussions like this pop up for everyone of their star wars games. It comes down to Lucasfilm wanting to hype the new movie which stars original trilogy characters. So all the star wars games are focusing on the ot and the other era's are mostly off limits. Why do i say mostly? because we have already seen hints of both the clone wars and the old republic popping up in the living card game and the role playing game. This shows that ffg wants to use everything they can, it just means that right now those are mostly off limits and with some tweaking they can sneak in small things like artwork or for the rp a whole mission where you fight nexus, battledroids and deal with i believe it was a clone trooper. (havent done the mission yet but read thru some of it for my rp group). Even imperial assauly has hints of the prequels in the form of the Nexu.

So i think sometime after episode 7 is out they will begin opening other eras into their games.

I agree with Yagyu. It's kind of like they're pinching the hose and as soon as EP7 hits they'll release their grip letting all things Star Wars flow.

Unfortunately I also believe that it will be a long while before we see anything from episodes I, II, or III. That is why I will not be purchasing Imperial Assault at all.

Arguably Hero characters like the Exile and the Commander may have back stories [and subsequently side missions] that extend to the earlier Eras in Star Wars.

I can see other Eras in custom made games by fans, as an example, it should be easy enough to create scenarios that pits the forces of The Empire as they subjugate the Wookiee homeworld, Kashyyyk .
