How do you open?

By Talisker55, in X-Wing

Had a very X-wing birthday last week, and learned that opening several expansions can be a PITA.

So I open them using scissors across the top, then split the backside down the middle. After that, tear the back bottom to one side and cut the other, finally pulling out the contents.

Is there a better way?

I spent quite a bit of time opening 2 rebel aces, 2 E-wings, 2 TIE, 1 Phantom, 1 TIE/in, 1 TIE/D.

The blisters, I open with scissors along three sides, then pull out the contents from behind.

Can opener along the blister. Seriously. try it.

Given how many of these blisters i've opened, i can say switching to a can opener has changed my life.

Things as good as these should take time to open. Earn that awesomely painted plastic.

I cut the top off with a scissor. Then, I just grab and rip the back off with my hands.

Teeth ...... preferably someone else's

Never thought about using a can opener. May need to buy a couple expansions tonight to run the time test....

I assume you mean the kind you wind, and not the punch kind. I guess I never thought of it, but if it's sharp enough to open a can it would work on plastic even better.

Myself I've been using a scissors around one side and the top.

Yeah, winding opener across an edge will open it straight up.

I used to use scissors until a blister broke my scissors, i used to use modelling scalpel. that was a pain.

Can opener wins.

X-acto knife along the top, then down the inside corner of each edge. Use the corner to guide your line. I have admittedly also inadvertently opened other parts of the interior packaging but have never damaged anything, and it's smooth as butter.

I came here thinking in terms of chess, ie opening moves

This was better....

I just use scissors on the vertical edge of the blister. Four cuts and easy peasy.

I have a very sharp folding knife which I just slide around three edges.

I do the three sides with a good pair of scissors myself as well.

I think the best way to describe it:

I do the same: a pair of heavy-duty angled shears around the sides and top, then pull out the good stuff.

I've heard of the can opener trick, too, and I'd agree that it seems like a decent (and inexpensive) hack--except that a decent pair of shears is such a handy multipurpose tool anyway.

My Games Workshop modelling knife still has it's uses.

scissors across the top, then cut down the sides of the back panel so that everything can be pulled out of the back
