My 22 pt Conundrum

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing

Bulk of the list is:

Keyan + Push the Limit

Jake + Refit + Outmaneuver

Gemmer + Refit + Test Pilot + Vet Instincts

This gives me 3 mobile, PS 7 pilots, at 78 points.

Options to add:

Cracken + Squad Leader

Blue

Rookie + R2

RebOp + ICT

Green + Refit + Test Pilot + Push the Limit + ...Decoy?

I think the idea of something with an ICT would work well with this list, but the Rebel Op would feel a bit fragile to me, especially with the highly mobile pilots you are fielding - the poor guy is going to have to fend for himself a lot.

Is having VI on Gemmer an essential part of the game plan? could you shave a couple of points and go for a Goldie instead?

Blount + Assault Missiles = 22pts, covers your relatively poor attack, and allows your other ships to have a much easier time dealing with wounded enemies. If you are lucky, it might even force your opponent to split up, and if that happens your Awings would have an advantage against them in a 1v1 situation

EDIT: and you REALLY should consider PTLing your Awings

I'm really enjoying the 3 PS 7 pilots. It gives me some serious advantage in the PS wars. Also - part of me likes the Reb Op specifically because it's a soft target. Makes it an early go for my opponent, while everyone else surrounds them.

everybody would go for Keyan 1st, and once he is dead, you are left with only 2atk Awings, so your firepower seriously suffers a lot. ICT would therefore not be a good idea due to its low damage output

Except Outmaneuver on Jake means Fat Whomever isn't rolling defense dice.

I dunno - I'd be pretty confident of using the ICT in concert with the A wings' agility and Keyan's big boom to sow enough confusion and deal enough damage before Keyan buys the farm to mitigate it's low damage output once Keyan's gone.

I would want to put it on something a little sturdier than a HWK though

You guys are right about the low damage output but you have to think about who to target first in this build. If you bring a HWK with an ICT you make your threat level spread out amongst your ships almost evenly. If they ignore the HWK those ions will do damage eventually and that could mean game over for your opponent (if they can't recover). If they focus on the hwk it would ideally take 2 turns to kill it (always focus unless outside their arc). Same goes for the b-wing ideally 2 turns to kill so you can put some damage on given you have PS over your opponent.

So we're thinking RebOp + ICT + Nien Nunb?

Unless you're willing to drop the VI from Gemmer in order to squeeze in either a named HAWK or something chunkier like a Y-wing with ICT, then RebOp with ICT comes to 99, then if you don't want to bid for initiative take Nien Numb for the RebOp so it can keep up with the A Wings.

When I see 22 points left in a Rebel Squad, I never have a dilemma. Blue Squadron. Best ship with 3 attack dice to fit the bill. Unless you are running a control list, it is the best 22 point ship period (IMO) Only way I'd consider an ICT HWK or an A-Wing is if I was already pumping out the offense.

I think you want a low-PS ship with 3 Attack to act as a clean-up hitter, so I'd go with Rookie or Blue.

I would take the Blue for the added durability and firepower. Plus, once Keyan is dead, it will give you another B to fall back on.

So.... I was thinking with high PS, I'd get a lot of first shots and force my opponent to spend tokens. Which makes me wonder if I shouldn't add a Sensor Jammer to Keyan.

This of course leaves me with a whopping 18 points...

Realistically, two dice attacks, especially with Outmaneuver, are unlikely to cause your opponent to spend many tokens. And if you are successfully focusing your fire, you are only stripping tokens off of one ship.

If I actually was desperate for defense on Keyan, I'd use Engine Upgrade for dodging arcs. I'd still rather have a Blue Squadron though.

All of these are great,

I like solid ships X's B's or an Ion Turret are all great choices

However, Have you ever flown Keyan with Opportunist. Actually I prefer him with HLC and Opportunist, he stays back and does his best to get a broad view of all the enemy ships. He finds the one that has no token and nails it at range 3 for 5 dice with a free focus (spending his stress as a focus)

Also keeping him at range 3 helps protect him from return fire.

I would run another a-wing prototype with proton rockets(20 pts) then swap out gemmers VI for predator or PTL, makes both of your named a-wings good attackers, and gives you a one off attack that can put the hurt on a prime target.

plus I just like A-Wings
