A bunch of timing questions

By Dydra, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

I have been needing a clarification on a bunch of timing questions for a while, but have been postponing for a while.

1) If you have a parasite on tollbooth and enough DS counters to kill it. When you run do you kill it, by using DS tokens, before the " on encounter " effect triggers or you kill it after it sucks 3c/end the run from you?

Same situations, but instead of DS tokens you use Scrubbed ( -2 str on first encountered ICE) or Ice Carver.

My understanding is that in DS token case - no, in the other 2 cases - yes. Clarify for me please

2) If you have Bullfrog and Port Anson Grid when is the correct way to rezz Port Anson? Is there a window to rezz it after winning the Psy-game or the runner will have the ability to jack-out before the next paid ability window?

If my memory serves me correct there was a Paid Ability window between Subroutines triggering and continue run to be successful/not.

I'll add a couple of more questions later on, but gotta run now :) so that's it for now!

1) You're correct. Datasucker tokens can only be used during the encounter, whereas static STR reducers like Scrubbed and Carver will take effect immediately when you encounter the ice. Since you're the active player, your effects have priority, and the Tollbooth is trashed.

2) There is no Rez window during an Ice encounter.

The Runner APPROACHES the outermost piece of ice not already approached on the attacked server.

2.1 {Paid Abilities}
2.2 The Runner decides whether to continue the run.
...Either the Runner JACKS OUT: go to [6] (cannot jack out if this is the first ice approached this run)
...Or the Runner continues the run: go to [2.3]
2.3 Approached ice can be rezzed, {Paid Abilities} {Rez Cards}
2.4 Players check to see if the approached ice is rezzed.

• If the approached ice is REZZED, go to [3]. If the approached ice is UNREZZED, the Runner
PASSES it: go to [2] if there is another piece of ice protecting the server, go to [4] if there is not
another piece of ice protecting the server.

3. The Runner ENCOUNTERS a piece of ice. (‘When encountered’ conditionals meet their trigger conditions)
3.1 Icebreakers can interact with the encountered ice, {Player Actions}
3.2 Resolve all subroutines not broken on the encountered ice.
...Either the run ends: go to [6]
...Or the run continues: if there is another piece of ice protecting the server, go to [4].

4.1 {Paid Abilities}
4.2 The Runner decides whether to continue the run.
...Either the Runner JACKS OUT: go to [6]
...Or the Runner continues the run: go to [4.3].
4.3 {Paid Abilities} {Rez Cards}

I'm not exactly clear what scenario you're describing, though. Is Port Anson Grid on the original server or on the destination server? I'm going to assume the destination server since the usual use of Bullfrog is to hop the runner onto a trap server they can't escape.

So, you would need to rez PAG during the initial approach to Bullfrog. At that point he or she is committed to encountering Bullfrog. Presumably you then win the Psi game and drop them onto the PAG server. If you wait until after Bullfrog resolves, your next opportunity to rez PAG is 4.3, and the runner has an opportunity to jack out in 4.2--which he or she almost certainly would, since you went to all the trouble of making them run there.

Rezzing cards isn't a paid ability. It's easy to get those mixed up because there's also a paid ability window whenever there is a rez window (I had to look that up myself) but if you take a look at the timing chart you'll notice that you can only rez cards whenever you would rez ice (2.3) and right after the runner decides to jack out (4.3).

So your best bet is to rez it with the ice that's supposed to make them jack out. At that point you should already have a pretty good idea if the subroutines will resolve. I guess in the case of Bullfrog you might still lose the Psy-Game.

Yeah, I realized that Paid Ability window and Card Rezz windows were two different things a bit later after I wrote the questions.

Still sad for PAG, it would have been neat if you could spend the rezz cost after u won the PSY game :)
