YBtC Competition - Gauging Interest

By awayputurwpn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey all,

Since we have a quite complete set of rules across the three games (EotE, AoR, and FaD Beta), I thought now would be a good time to suggest this.

Who would be interested in a friendly "You Build the Character" competition, where forum-goers would compete in a monthly contest to display their PC-building chops? Each month, a character from the Star Wars universe would be selected and everyone would have a chance to present their build for that character as if he or she was a Player Character in FFG's Star Wars RPG system.

The winner would be decided by popoluar vote, and the prize each month would be bragging rights.

Lemme know what you think, and if there are any specific characters you would be interested in statting out as PCs. I've already got an idea for the first one :)

I would vote but not really much for the building other people's creations, at least as characters.

So, for example, January's character would be Bespin Ice Cream Maker Guy, and we all submit our best Ice Cream Maker Guy stat blocks?

Sounds like fun. Sure, I'm game.

Okay a little bit of interest so far :) That's cool. I will probably get a post up later this week with some rules for the competition and see how well it goes!

As a sneak peek, for characters, I'm thinking one of the following: Darth Maul, Chewbacca, or Tarkin. So...let that percolate, and let me know if any of those characters sound interesting to try and stat out as PCs :)

I am game as well.

This sounds like fun. I have EotE, myself and limited access to AoR but I don't mind playing with a handicap since the stakes are low and the rewards (a fun time) are high.

Would you be making these characters solely on Creation experience, or would they be allowed Knight level or some such.

I'm of a mind to make it "unlimited XP" -- as you envision the character. But I tend to find that economy is a consideration when judging the merits of any build, so if one can accurately portray a film character in 150 XP when it takes another 500 XP...it all comes down to personal taste at that point.

That aside, it really depends on whether the character in question would be considered more of a "starting" character or an "experienced" character. So we could experiment with "unlimited" vs. "budgeted" and see what people like more.
