The cycle of x-wing new release

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

First - excitement about the new wave

Second - joy as the status changes to on a boat

Third - anticipation with each article about new ships

Fourth - angst as items are 7 weeks on boat

Fifth - maddness as a email confirmation of items being ship to house/store

Sixth - regret as a cooler ship was just announced and you spent all your money

You missed one: trolling these forums while waiting for the new releases

I thought point 6 happens between point 3 and 5?

My problem has been wait to get old ships, new upgrades are announced for old ships. Old ships now out of stock.... :(

Between 4 and 5, replacing the F5 key broken while refreshing our order status after the FFG status becomes 'shipping to distributor'

You missed the point where you are unboxing the dozen or so ships that just arrived and are painstakingly going through tokens and cards, organizing them all into their required decks. That takes at least an hour or two depending on the release.

How could you possibly have forgotten the:

"Cubanboy" step of creating posts such as:

  1. What is taking so long?
  2. Exactly what did happen to the boat?
  3. Why can't we get that last card that wasn't spoiled"
  4. Wash, rinse, repeat

:P

The anticipation for internet purchases to be delivered is insane.

I find my cycle goes as follows:

1. Get passionate about a particular item.
2. Buy it and a few other related items. Eg, buy 3-6 t-shirts to save on postage. There's only 1 shirt I actually wanted.
3. Check email daily for delivery notifications and delivery updates. Granny passed away email ignored.
4. After a day or two, check mail box twice a day.
5. Start to think "do I really need this product?"
6. Regret buying it, check website again. not that impressed.
7. Live life as normal.
8. Product arrives, the buzz is well and truly gone. Open with regret and consider faking excitement so the Mrs doesn't think I wasted some coin.
9. Open the package .. and am truly joyed its contents. Initial buzz come flooding back. Whatever is in that package is the best. Thing. EVER!!!!

10. Spurring interest in something slightly related and reverting me back to point one.

Relax people!

The game just grew to the size where we lost our view on possible builds, counterbuilds, counter-counterbuilds etc.

With the three factions, the many ships, and the countless cards creating a 'one-squad-beats-all' squad has become nigh-on impossible. On the one hand this is good, on the other hand, with the cuurent speed of new releases, we can be confronted with the fact our latest purchase will never reach top-status due to a new release.

We slowly start to realize we don't need every new expansion.

Tl;dr: The game is losing momentum?

I don't think this game will lose significant momentum until we hit that point where we've completely run out of ships in the Star Wars universe that make sense for this game. Then they will either "jump the shark" or fall by the wayside. It will happen eventually. They can't just make stuff up like warhammer or magic the gathering does. FFG is working in a confined space

I Didn't think they were releasing ships anymore I thought they just announced them we paid for them on pre order then they never come

(still waiting for Rebel Aces.......)

:(

7. Griping that the new release is broken/overpowered/lackluster/bad for the game?

My own cycle goes something like this:

1: See announcement on FFG news page.

2: Raise eyebrow.

3: Sell GW stuff on eBay.

4: Wait.

5: ???????

6: ..........profit.

Just curious ... what is the projected FFG wave where you no longer have GW stuff to sell? What happens then?

I don't think you can hit that point if you played 40k for a few editions. It's more likely that 40k stuff will devalue because everyone is playing x wing

I believe it's somewhere between Scum & Villany and the Imperial Huge Ship release.

Then, I panic.

Hey Cuban boy money will be in short supply FOREVER now that your a Dad.. just saying.... but it is one of the few things cooler than X-wing and as i mentioned earlier different thread now you can buy ALL the cool toys YOU want under the guise that its for the kid..lol
