Keyan Farlander - Advanced Sensors + Push the Limit + Red Maenovure

By HeroOfTheGalacticEmpire, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello I've got a query concerning my Keyan Farlander build-out

I've chosen to have

Advanced Sensors + Push the Limit.

Now before revealing my move dial, I activate advanced sensors, making my action, then I use Push the Limit to make another action (say - barrel roll then target lock). Which of course I gain a stress token. THEN I have to reveal my movement dial which happens to be a Red Move. Now because I have a stress token, I can't make Red moves but since I've already revealed do I resolve it or what happens?

Many thanks

Whisper aka Dave.

Any time you make a red maneuver and have a stress, you hand the dial to the other person and they get to set it to a new non-red maneuver.

From page 17 of the core rules.

If a ship already has a stress token assigned to it and it reveals a red maneuver during the Activation phase, the opposing player chooses any non-red maneuver on that ship’s dial for the ship to execute.

And as the opponent, I'd usually default to a white maneuver for you (unless a green works better for me), but in the case of Farlander, I'd default to a green.

Rule of Thumb: Don't use Advanced Sensors and Push the Limit if you've planned a red maneuver. It's going to bite you in the backside.

If you plan to use AS & PtL, plan a green maneuver to rid yourself of the stress (unless you're using Farlander, of course).

Exception: If you see that your planned red maneuver will bite you in the backside, you might be able to Adv S + PtL to get to a spot from which all legal maneuvers are superior to your initially chosen one.

Highly unlikely, but with Prox Mines suddenly being viable again....

Agreed, I had this same debate and concluded the same. Don't pick a red move if using Advanced Sensors and PTL.

Yes this has happened to me if Keyan PTLs before he does a kturn or whatever, your opponent chooses your manuever

Thank you so much for the huge response!

I am developing a new Rebel list in preparation for the new S&V meta which I've got to work a way out for my Imperials as well.

So far I'm working on

Keyan (as detailed here for 35pts)

2x Green Squadron Pilots with - Test Pilot, Chardeen Refits, Out manoeuvre and Push the Limit (23pts x2)

Roark Garnet (19pts)

Making a solid 100pts..

I'd figure out how to give Roark a gun.

Secondly, Why don't we see him more often, in this "Pilot Skill is KING" meta, brought on by Phantoms?

That's what I thought because Whisper is my favourite pilot on my favourite ship in the game!

But still - Hwk 290 will even be better in Scum with their new 19pt pilot which at the end of the activation phase, you choose 1 enemy ship within range 1-2 and it's pilot skill becomes 0 for the combat phase.. Effectively neutralising powerful pilots!

I think that the more popular counter for Torkil Mux is just going to be "Burn it, burn it with fire!". Mux is going to be more of an issue for Imperial ships like high PS Phantoms and Interceptors who don't even have access to Roark than he will be for anything that the Rebels bring. I see him being more of a soft alternative to Biggs that has a bit of an area denial aspect to him. If your opponent cares about his ability he won't last more than two rounds of combat and often won't even make it to the second round.

Mux won't be a big enough threat to justify building a specific counter into lists.

Don't forget that Roark's ability activates at the beginning of Combat phase so while someone's pilot skill may be dropped down to 0, Roark can still boost them up to 12.

I'm more interested in seeing Mux's ability mess with swarm tactics. Good thing they added the errata including the "may" clause to Swarm Tactics
