List Building Tips & Advice For an Upcoming 150pt Tourney

By UniJustin, in X-Wing

Hello All,

I will be attending a 150pt team tournament at the end of November and was curious if any of you had any pro tips for building larger lists. The format is a bit unique, each team of two will have a Rebel player and an Imperial player and each round you only play the opposite faction from the team you're paired against. I will be the Rebel player on my team. This means that I only need to build against The Empire, no need to even worry about Rebel list possibilities.

So, has anyone had any experience with this format? Is there a fundamental difference in list building compared to 100pts? Should I try to put as many B-Wings on the board as I can? It seems that larger more pricey elite ships, like YT-1300/2400's, will just be swept away by an unrelenting wave of laser fire.

Nobody has experience building 150pt lists?

I haven't played 150 pts games yet, but here are a few suggestions (Rebels):

- Tycho (PTL, Swarm Tactics, Test Pilot, Chardaan)

- Jake (PTL, Chardaan)

- Keyan (PTL, Advanced Sensors, HLC)

- Chewbacca (Predator, C-3PO, Gunner, Millenium Falcon)

150 pts

- Wes (R5-P9, VI)

- Wedge (R2-D2, Swarm Tactics, Shield Upgrade)

- Keyan (PTL, Advanced Sensors, HLC, B-Wing/E2, Kyle crew)

- Roark (Ion Cannon Turret, Jan crew, Shield Upgrade)

150pts

- Wedge (R2-D2, Wingman)

- Corran (R2 Astromech, FCS)

- Jan (Nien Numb)

- Keyan (PTL, HLC)

- Bandit

I like the third list you suggested. It can throw out a lot of raw firepower, but it only has 27 hit points. I think I'm going to try to fly at least 5 ships with at least 30 total hit points. I'm concerned that if I gamble on small 4 to 5 ship elite builds, I risk being swept away by a super swarm. Honestly right now I'm thinking of flying 4 naked Blue Squadron Pilots as a backbone alongside 62 points of elite ships.

First: you need a larger board. If you play on a 3x3 it becomes a dumb English colonnial line them up. Really. Whoever has tankier ships will win. Mobile ships will die.

4x4 probably better.

Focus fire becomes much better with that many points.

My balance point is 125, this is almost still like anormal game. At 150, focus fire has escalated to the point where the game begins to break down.

You may want to consider some AOE damage. 10 points for 2 assault missiles or Ion Torps.

I like your 4 naked blue idea,.

My suggestion to fill out the rest

Etahn, predator, and sensor jammer.

Green Squad, PTL, outmaneuver, refit, test pilot.

I like Etahn a lot knowing you are only playing against imps, they have very few shields, and so those extra crits could be huge.

predator so he can keep his focus for defense, and jammer to help defense as well.

and the green just gives you a ship that is fun to play. out maneuver should come into play a lot with more targets on the board.

First: you need a larger board.

Not at all!! All escalation tournaments end at 150 points and are played on a 3x3 mat with no space issues. I have been playing with a small group where we really enjoy 150pt matches and all are played on a 3x3 mat. Not once has the surface been "too small."

I think most people that complain about 3x3 mats and 150 pts have little experience actually playing with this set up and it's all theoretical opinion.

I've been playing practice games with my team mate on a 3x3 and it hasn't felt at all cramped. The average tie swarm has 7 ships, his 150pt Empire list uses 5. Granted 150 points allows for a much larger swarm; and since the Imperial players won't have to worry about Phantoms chewing up their swarms, they have little reason not to go crazy with the model count. I have contemplated taking 3 naked Blue Squadron Pilots plus Blount with Assault Missiles as the backbone as a fail safe against swarms.

is there a limit on any 1 particular ship?

Etahn + Sensor Jammer + Stealth Device + PTL 42 Points

9 x Bandit Squadron Pilot 108 points

should cripple opposing tie swarms and would probably throw enough damage at a phantom to actually deal with it effectively.

That's a great question Mace Windu, I am not sure if there is a limit to the number of any single ship type, or the number of ships allowed in a squad. Between my team mate and myself we own enough of each ship type to field pretty much anything. The big things I need to worry about are Phantoms and Swarms (most likely both), so it's going to be a matter of taking enough heavy hitters combined with turrets and high PS.

If you want to use a bigger board I thin 3x4 is big enough

as for a list I would fly

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R5 Astromech (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R5 Astromech (1)

Total: 150

Here's another suggestion:

Blue x3

Biggs

Etahn (R3-A2, Predator)

Blount (Assault Missiles)

You're right, I didn't think about what you'd be facing really, just what could be good ships for the points... The first one is great in theory (that Chewie build has served me well), but probably not enough firepower.

I think that no matter what points are used, sticking with the rule no more than 8 of any single small ship and 4 of any large ship is the best in tournament formats. Otherwise this opens up the door to 12 Ties/Z-95s on one side and could you imagine two swarms like that on opposite sides of the table! :o Twenty four ships having to place dials and perform maneuvers each turn would probably see contact being made just prior to time running out! :(

A time limit of 60-90minutes seems appropriate depending upon how many rounds they want to get through. Maybe an average of 75min would be ideal.
