This is an idea I have kicking around my head for narrative campaigns, D20 and probably an online squadron once GOG re-releases XvT or XWA (i have my grubby hands on mission editors and have been literally making TIE and XvT missions for 20 years).
The 128th Recon wing consists of all Hyperspace capable craft, they have absolutely no reliance on carriers whatsoever. Because of this, their uniforms tend to be more customized and haphazard than standard TIE's, and they are used to landing planetside and setting up rough camps. It is not uncommon for pilots to equip heavier rifles such as the T21 or E11 in their inventories. Indeed, all pilots will have gone through extensive ground combat training at Carida academy, with some pilots undergoing specialist storm commando training, aquatic combat training etc.
The wing consists of 3 Squadrons and 1 Decimator fitted for long range comms.
Banshee squadron is for new pilots to the wing. It consists of Hyperspace modified TIE's. Typically the Interceptor and bomber - more so the interceptor.
In game turns these always have shield generators as modifiactions, in XVT/TIE always hyperdrive + shield. The reason for shields is twofold. Firstly it protects an investment, hyperdrives are not cheap. Secondly it allows an increase in atmospheric flight speed, an essential update for Recon ships.
They may on occasion also be outfitted with TIE Scouts.
The second squadron - Scythe Squadron consists entirely of Assault gunboats. These are pilots that have served their time and survived in Banshee, or have a significant preference to either long distance recon or the heavy fighters. The gunboats tackle long range recon, and recon missions lasting in the order of weeks. The assault gunboat is a perfect patrol/recon platform. Because of their long distance missions, the pilots tend to look grizzled and rough, due to the life support of their ships they often do not wear their helmets.
The third squadron: Shadow squadron are the aces and veterans of the wing. They fly Imperial Experimental ships. These Range from the TIE Defender and Phantom to the Missile Boat. It is common for the CO of the 128th to fly lead in this wing, though often duty forces him to stay aboard the Decimator.
The reason I am posting this is really the gunboat thread got me thinking, I do like narrative campaigns and really.. would anyone be interested in an Imperial themed one? I'd have to be after scum is out.
