How do i get a broke stand piece out of a ship?

By Flyingbrick, in X-Wing

Well been wondering how to do this without breaking off the part of the ship itself. Any ideas and suggestions would be awsome, thanks. :)

Have you tried loaning it some money? Perhaps if you help it get on its feet, it'll move out and find another home.

use a hobby knife, sink the blade of the knife into the plastic piece (DO NOT CHOP IT OFF, just about 1/8 into the plastic would do) and gently pry the piece out.

ok will try the hobby knife ty, but if that doesnt work i guess bribeing it will be next ;)

I had something similar happen. I ended up just filing down the ends and gluing the top stand to the xwing.

might have to do something similar like just keeping the pegs in the ships but wanting to avoid that if at all possible.

I had this happen to one of my X-wings once. I heated up a slim safety pin with a lighter and very carefully pushed it into the broken portion of the peg. After I let it cool for a second, I simply pulled out the broken piece. No damage or warping at all on the X-wing's peg slot occurred.

That sounds pretty clever. I like it.

I figure it worked for me, lol. If it had not, it would have been a warning not to instead!

Good luck on getting the broke bit out OP!

You can get a fine drill bit and pin vice and carefully drill into it. That should give you enough friction hopefully to pull it out. If not get some thin wire with a tiny drop of superglue and then insert it into the hole you just drilled. Let it set and then pull it out.

I will second this advice. Heat up a small pin to cherry red, then immediately sink it into the busted-off peg portion. Let it cool for a few seconds and it should bond pretty well. Then just pull it out!

I've used this trick twice - worked like a charm both times.

Nice. I have this problem on a couple of my ships, will give that a try!

If everything else fails, FFG will send you a replacement free of charge, as long as you fill out a support form and post a pick of the damaged model.

I don't have the link for the form handy, but I'm sure a bit of searching will dig it right up.

This happened to me once, I couldn't get anything any pin inside to force the remaining part out. I used a 0.8-1mm drill (very gently) and drilled in two places of the broken part, the second time all the plastic came out by itself due to the drill.

edit: also relevant, I had a good stand, so I was 100% sure of being vertical with respect to the ship.

Modelling pin vice from a games workshop toolkit (thanks to my wife for that one...) if it can drill a bolter barrel, it can drill a stand mount.

As stated above, a modeling pin vice is best. What will happen that that you'll drill out the rounded parts as well so the ship my spin on a new peg, bit it is a bit of a snug fit and shouldn't be too big of a deal. I currently have two ships in my fleet that I have had to do that with, I am sorry to say.

Show it the Gender Inclusiveness thread elsewhere on these boards. It will leave of its own accord, and speedily.

ba-DUM-Pssssshhh!

Naw, but seriously, I had the same thing happen. The drill-bit trick listed here by others works just fine.

Have you considered magnetizing?

I've done this myself. Works well.

Have you considered magnetizing?

I have considered it, but the thing stopping me is how well it'd work on larger ships, like the Falcon, Slave-1, etc. Has anyone else magnetized their big 'uns?
