Is it viable to play a 300 point epic game on a 3.5 x 4.5 foot table instead of the indicated 6x3? I watched a 6x3 game once and there was quite some time that passed before the fleets engaged. The smaller size is what I have available without further arrangements. I´m asking with huge ships in mind by the way. Just curious.
Question about Epic board size options.
Can someone confirm... you start on the long edge right? so you're facing your opponent across the 3' side still right?
I think that's really stupid. Makes for just lining up and going at each other over a really... 3x3 area.
I'd play 6x6 and use 24 asteroids (4 times the space). And even go up to 400 pts if you want.
Be sure to pack AOE damage to avoid fighting like the british. (Walks in a line at you)
Edited by Blail BlergThat is correct...you deploy on the 6' edge so there are still only 3' between you and your opponent. My first game of Epic (before Epic rules were actually released) my opponent and I played on a 5' x 4' table and deployed on the 4' edge, so we basically had 4' of space between all of our ships. Flying all our ships all out at 4 and 5 straights, it took us 3 turns to barely get 1-2 range 3 "pot-shots" before most ships finally engaged at close range on turn 4.
You should be fine on a 3.5' by 4.5' board if you deploy on the 4.5' side.
Well a 4'3" x 4'3" give you roughly a similar area as a 3' x 6'. (just over by 1/16 in^2). But yeah I find a long rectangle to a bit of a drag in the first couple of turns in the match. You want to have ships in combat by turn 3 at the latest unless both sides are playing seriously timid.

So you've never played an Epic scale game then, I take it?
Have fun moving that TIE Interceptor around in the middle of your 6' x 6' board... how long are your arms, by the way?
The 6x3 is fine for epic, since you set up along the long edge, and there is room in the flanks for some real maneuvering triumphs to show through.
If you setup along the 3' edge and properly kit your CR-90, you should be able tear up your opponent before they get to range. Setting up in the narrow edge they won't be able to flank until they go through everything you have.
