TIME TO SPECULATE !!!

By SoulCrusherEx, in X-Wing

I don't know if this is a controversial opinion or not, but I *don't* want to see new ships. I feel the deeper you delve into the EU, the game becomes less 'Star Wars-y'. The X-wing and Tie fighter, the Falcon, the Tantive, all Iconic ships that you recognise from the OT. The 'K-wing' just looks like a generic sci-fi spaceship, and the name sounds like the designer gave up thinking of a name, and just used the 'Rebel ship formula' of picking a random letter that the ship may or may not look a bit like, and sticking the word 'wing' after it.

I'd rather see the Advanced fixed in a 'Battle of Yavin Aces' pack, to give the Wave 1 Ships a bit of love. New X, Y, Tie and Advanced pilots, maybe some more alt-paint schemes like the Transport X-wing. THAT is Star Wars to me, not some crap from the EU nobody cares about.

Not completely controversial, I'm more or less on the same side. Even S&V is beyond what I would like to see. But there are a few star warsy ships still out there that are ok in my book. At least 1 big ship for the empire, but other than that I rather have more pilots and upgrades than silly ships.

For the empire:

- Imperial aces type boxed set with bomber and advanced (imperial ordinance)

- Chiss clawcraft

- tie scout (no real attack power but a offers bonuses to allies)

- Gozanti epic with TIE fighter.

Scum:

- Punishing one (jumpmaster 5000) and mist hunter (G-1A starfighter) as noted previously.

- YV-666 epic

- Trigon one epic

- ATL Interceptor

- Surronian conqueror (stinger)

Rebels:

Rebel aces type pack with x-wing and y-wing

Universal options:

Packs of flight stands and bases

Plastic dials for ships.

Upgrade packs that include a couple of new pilots, weapons, and errata updated card printings.

This, this, and once again this - especially the Yavin suggestion

Apart from the lack of an Imperial Huge Ship, X-Wing is not in need of anything new - and you could even argue that we could do without one of those for a little longer (let's face it, we're gong to have to lol!)

I'd go so far as to say that we will do just fine without a single new ship for the next 12 months.

I'd much rather see FFG look at releases that add polish to some of the ships that need it, and revisit some of the game mechanics that do need looking at (i.e. ordnance)

We also have no idea how Scum will affect balance and/or the meta - and only time, errata and an FAQ or two will tell us - not yet more releases of increasingly obscure ships.

Last of all, there's a huge pool of new players who simply can't keep up with the release schedule of new waves as well as get hold of previous waves - so let's take a few breaths while we wait for supply to catch up with demand.

The Yavin set is a great suggestion - I has the potential to be the perfect first purchase to compliment the core set - it can be used to consolidate all of the X Y TIE and TIE advanced pilots into a single set and introduce a few new ones

seriously i want to see the pulsar skate with some synergistic cards for Corran as Mirax is his wife. and on the scum side Booster Terric pilot card... ship can be used for booth Rebels and scum... also if they use the "Skate" design it looks pretty cool... although haven't looked at the dimensions it may be able to be a Large Scum ship or at least a large base scum ship. I mean it can carry an X-wing in its bay which would put it in the large/huge ship area i would think?? on that note could be sold with an special Corran Horn X-wing...

Campaign packs.

With pilots, missions, tokens etc.

Also, the two ships from "rebels" - the ghost and the imperial one.

Agree with most on the eu stuff not feeling star warsy enough, but these two and the new series in general are very sensitively done. And the imps need a big ship.

Next to come in the next 2-4 waves:

Empire:

Imperial Aces II (Tie Advanced and Tie Bomber)

XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat

Missile Boat

Tie Aggressor

TIE Avenger

Tie Oppressor

Scum:

Skipray Blastboat

MandalMotors G1-M4-C "Dunelizard" Starfighter

MandalMotors M12-L "Kimogila" Multi-role Starfighter

MandalMotors M22-T "Krayt" Gunship

TransGalMeg "Kihraxz" Assault Fighter
TransGalMeg "Ixiyen" Fast Attack Craft
TransGalMeg "Rihkxyrk" Attack Ship

Rebels:

K-Wing

V-Wing

T-Wing

YT-2000

I'm in the not interested in new ships camp. I'm going to have enough to buy with Armada and Imperial Assault.

The more I think about it, the Surronian Conqueror class ship is almost guaranteed.

We have the dash rendar and Xizor and their ships, so why not guri and hers.

The ship had a number of modifications, including braking thrusters - a mod that would allow you to attack a ship you are touching (or to come up short). This could be what the autothruster upgrade does.

I was wondering about the faction composition of future waves now there are three factions. Will it start being 3 ships in a wave, one each. Or maybe 1 reb / imp and 2 scum until they have the same number of ships? Will there be ships released with cards, etc, for 2 factions included in some releases?

I promise that I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but FFG is already walking a highwire in a hurricane with their ship designs. They want very badly for everything they make to be viable in one way or another. That's why we got the A-Wing fix, it's why we have seen upgrades to the Y-Wing announced, and it is why we are all patiently waiting to find out what they are going to do to fix the TIE Advanced.

I think the very last thing that FFG wants to do is release a new wave of ships that will drastically impair the use of a ship already out. We are fast approaching the point that any new ship is going to push an old ship out of service.

That being said, FFG does want to still produce new ships, because that is how they will continue to make money off this game. The key is to introduce new ships and mechanics that won't make old ships and mechanics obsolete.

Now, as for what I would like to see for a new ship, that would be the Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing.

How many ships behind are Scum? They're got, what, 6?

Y-Wing

Z95

That little thing with the weird name

Firespray

The cool insect-like thing

IG88's ship

And Rebels have 7?

X-Wing

A-Wing

B-Wing

Y-Wing

HWK

YT1300

Am I forgetting anything?

ARC-170s are what we need, by the way. Yep, NEED.

Nothing wrong with not liking EU ships. But, making new ships does not mean we won't get new support for existing ships. I would expect the next announcement to be a side release, either an Imperial Epic or Aces pack. Ideally, they upgrade the Aces pack into a "big box", like Most Wanted. Add a whole slew of pilots for the Imperials would be lovely. And I expect them to continue to release such packs to further help the older and iconic ships. But, FFG is also a big fan of the EU. And they are able to tap into the EU fan market very well. There are some EU ships I am very excited to actually get a model of (mainly the Avenger, been a fan since the Decipher CCG).

Also the BH ships. And I will go against the grain and hope they use the new sized version of the Hound's Tooth that was in the Clone Wars. I want to use Bossk in normal games.

3 ships I’d like to see (1 large, 2 of the huge variety)

400px-Incom_X4.jpg

Incom x4 gunship (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/X4_Gunship)- with the release of the decimator & some of the forthcoming releases for s&v, ffg has show they're willing to dive into the ships many of us first saw (& wanted physical models of) in galaxies: jump to lightspeed. I'd like to see them continue this trend with the release of the x-4 gunship as a large based rebel ship for use in standard sized games, complete with the introduction of a new mechanic to exemplify it's gunship/multiple gun arcs ethos while also providing a rebel large ship that has a centered cockpit/bridge for those of us who prefer a streamlined look to our ships

Vigil class corvette (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vigil-class_corvette)- this one I’d like to see released as a huge ship for the imps for several fairly obvious reasons including the fairly obvious one of having such a cool model in physical form

Nebulon b (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/EF76_Nebulon-B_escort_frigate)- this one I’d like to see released as a huge ship with cards that would allow it to be used in either imp or rebel forces as it is ironically associated with the rebels but it was still quite prominent in imp fleets during the civil war & would be interesting to see it designed in a cross faction capacity Ala what's happening with the ships forthcoming in wave 6's release.

Yeah, you're forgetting the Hawk for the Scum, and the E-wing and YT2400 for the rebels.

Once wave 7 hits, there will be 9 (non-epic) rebel ships, 9 imperial ships, and 7 scum ships.

8 if you consider the Heavy Scyk title to essentially give you another ship option.

Oh yeah, forgot about the HWK! Wasn't counting the 2400 as it's not properly out yet, but I suppose it will be when S&V is...

Still, pretty much caught up already aren't they?

Exactly the opposite to me then. X-Wing's the game I'm interested in. I don't envisage picking up either of the other two.

Well, Vader is on the Winter 2014 medal. Guess we're getting that TIE Advanced fix soon. :P

I suspect X-Wing will still be my favourite (although we can't possibly know that, of course), but I've got all the ships I want for that (except prequel ones). I can't just keep buying every ship they put out, even if I've never heard of it, even if I don't like it, just to make sure I have one of everything, and yet I know full well that's what I'll do! GRR, why not just take all my money as soon as I get paid, FFG?

Imagine if the TIE advanced fix is secretly on the boat with Scum and they want to see how we react to unspoiled-until-almost-release releases...

2 more ships from scum.

1 ship from rebs

1 ship for imps

And then they will take some time, while armada gets released more expansion packs while they announce Xwing 2.0.

I'm thinking a Scum YT-1000 is also a strong possibility.

Speculation: Tie Avenger to be released next year.

Actual chance of this happening: 0%

Better to be safe than sorry.

I know exactly what you mean, even subsidising X-Wing with eBay sales I've spent way more on X-Wing this year than I thought I would.

The other two games do look good - but I could easily see myself ending up with a box of unpainted, rarely used models again, so I'm going to stick with X-Wing. I think every expansion FFG has released for X-Wing so far has improved the game, and pace of the game & speed of play is just perfect.
