Current best set up for Biggs? (Wedge, Luke, Biggs)

By gundamv, in X-Wing

So, I am building a Wedge, Luke, Biggs build and am wondering what are the best upgrade cards to use with Biggs to make him live longer.

I know that the old standards are R2D2 (to recover shields) or R2F2 (to up defense dice). However, I think that R7 Astromech might also work (to reroll enemy's attack dice).

One possible build:

Wedge Antilles (29) + Predator (3) = 32 points

Luke Skywalker (28) + R2D2 (4) + Shield Upgrade (4) = 36 points

BIggs Darklighter (25) + R7 Astromech (2) + Stealth Device (3) = 30 points

That leaves 2 points left over. Perhaps I could put a R2 Astromech on Wedge.

Your thoughts?

Draw Their Fire for Luke.

The way I look at it is this: Biggs WILL die, no matter what you give him. So, I want to give as little points to my opponent as possible when he bites it (and he *will*). I use the points I would have spent on futilly trying to keep Biggs alive to make Luke and Wedge as offensive as possible, so as to remove as many guns from play before they can even be shot at. And hey, the more people Luke and Wedge kill, the less guns are firing at Biggs. It's a sort of 'the best defence is a strong offence' thinkng, and as we all know, Red dice beat Green, so I want to be getting the most of my Reds, not my Greens. I'd put Oppertunist on Luke, so Wedge fires first with Predator (hopefully removing a token), then Luke fires with the offensive output of a Phantom.

I find at the bottom of the bin is the bast place for biggs.

I take it you play Imperials? ;)

i play both but i'd never use biggs i consider him bad game design.

Would you if he weren't quite so common?

I used to think that but then I learned a use for him that made sense to me. Preventing the enemy from concentrating fire.

Maneuver so that some of the enemy ships are forced to fire at Biggs, while others cannot fire at Biggs at all.

Anyways I'd never run him with less than 3 other fighters. With all due respect to Paul Heever, I don't think he's the best option to run with a Fat Han (or any other 50+ point ship).

Luke draw their fire

Biggs R4D6

That way Luke can catch the crits that R4D6 would not be able to negate, and big hitters with HLCs won't be an issue, which, otherwise, would one shot Biggs in one turn (like a Keyan superkamekameha or a Jonus Brother's lists, sometimes phantoms, or even range 1 Attack 3 ships).

Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Draw Their Fire (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
R4-D6 (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Total: 100

That's actually how Biggs should be used. It's not other way to use it. You want your opponent to have to divide fire first turn, so he can't kill anything, not just focus fire and kill biggs first turn.

Don't have Hull Upgrade or R4D6. I probably should get Imperial Aces, but haven't gotten around to it. I like the X-Wing from the Rebel Transport pack and its related cards, but I don't want to also have to buy the Rebel Transport. I don't play Epic, and as a matter of personal taste, don't like the Rebel Transport model much (too bland, I think).

You can exchange the R4D6 for an R5, or R2 on wedge.

You can mess around with some extra droids, and using shield upgrade for luke and biggs tho, aslong you don't get R2F2 for Biggs. You don't want it.

Something like this (i don't think it is the optimal tho)

Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Draw Their Fire (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
R5 Astromech (1)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Total: 100
Edit - If you want to know how i ussually play three amigos (i find it really fun to play with).
Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
R4-D6 (1)

I like the first list there, but put the shield on Wedge instead of Biggs

R7 astro does not gel with stealth device. If you get the target lock to use it, you will not have focus to use with your extra defense dice. If you like that R7, and I think it would be quite nice against certain builds, (falcons come to mind)..drop the stealth and put on hull upgrade.

I enjoy putting R2-D6 and Determination on Biggs. Watching the face of your opponent just sink when he gets a pilot Crit discarded is awesome. Unfortunately you can't put a second astro like R5 on him so you are still vulnerable to ship crits which can end him quickly. Anything to preserve his meat shield ability is a plus for me.

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29
Draw Their Fire 1
R2-D2 4
Hull Upgrade 3

Luke Skywalker — X-Wing 28
Draw Their Fire 1
R5-P9 3

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R5-D8 3
Hull Upgrade 3

-----

The Hull on Wedge is 'filler' bit I'm not sure what might replace it, or if it should go to Luke.

The idea is Biggs shouldn't be taking Crits between the others having DTF and Shield Regen Astromechs.

Biggs has Hull and R5D8 to survive the hits that leak through.

Personally I quite like the double DTF since it allows me to spread Crits or soak up a lucky roll.

Have you tried;

Biggs

R2-F2

Experimental Interface

So long as you clear stress you can PTL, so to speak, by taking a focus action and using the R2-F2 action with EI.

Best set up for Biggs is Biggs naked. I know you want to keep Biggs alive so it can continue to cover the vital ships in the squadron but if you spend too much on Biggs it ends up being counter productive. Instead focus and upgrading the damage output of the squadron so that when Biggs meets the inevitable he will have already done his job allowing the rest of the squadron to pull ahead on the damage race and focus down vital linchpins of the opposing squadron. You get more focusing on damaging your opponent than keeping Biggs alive.

Yeah. Biggs is really naked. :)

I see it as a good counter to falcon lists if you have enough mobility to track the falcon with the rest of your squad.

Whenever I run Biggs, I set him up like this:

Biggs Darklighter (25)

-Proton Torpedo Slot (Empty) (0)

-Astromech Slot (Empty) (0)

-Modification Slot (Empty) (0)

Seems to work best for my squad while giving me the most points to play with otherwise
