To what points?

I need specifics as well, and would like to know what the rest of your squad is. However, I'm a big fan off the more reliable, if bulky, Firespray.

Great fan of the Phantom, so to me it is qn easy choice.

Phantom it is.

With a high preference for echo with veteran instincts, advanced cloaking device and recon specialist.

Let the dance begin!

It really depends on your style.

Firespray is a tank. Maneuverability is mediocre, especially since it is a large ship, but it has great longevity. It also has the back arc, which could come in handy.

Phantom is a ninja. It has excellent maneuverability, but if it gets hit, it goes down quickly.

Apples or oranges.

To be honest, you want both for a healthy diet.

I believe both are viable and have different play styles and purposes.

Let's start with the Firespray. The rear arc is just fantastic...not to mention the 10 hit points protected by the 2 agility. Add a recon specialist and you've got a durable menace in the field. Certain opponents may choose to take it out first because it's large, but that's OK. It should last long enough to get some good shots in and let your TIEs wreck some face.

The phantom is essentially the opposite. It is capable of more firepower and has more maneuverability...but you need to know how to fly it well and how to use the rest of your squad to its advantage. If your opponent is keen on blocking your decloak lanes it can shut you down.

So now that I've summed up both of these ships, you should really compare them to your existing squad and choose one that covers your squad's weakness.

If you are using Fel or another Interceptor as your key pieces, your weakness is generally turreted ships. The Firespray covers this better than a Phantom. But trying to fit Fel and a Phantom in the same list doesn't leave much room for extra TIEs....so maybe turreted ships aren't that big of a weakness for your specific list and in that case your mini TIE swarm may be the anti-turret you need to help cover your Phantom's weakness.

They're totally different roles. Why don't you think about what you're missing first?

To be honest though is usually take the phantom. Just more sheer effing power

Both would probably be viable, but we'd need to see the rest of your list. As many have said, the Phantom is a glass cannon that can arc dodge like crazy when controlled right, while the Firespray is a tank that can also dish it out

Try 2 tie interceptors with a firespray and see how you like it?

I enjoyed both a Firespray with 2 TIE Interceptors as well as a Firespray with 3 TIE Fighters

Named phantom + ACD, no contest, not even a question. Until wave 5 hits, all imperial lists must have a ACD phantom in it if you wish to win a tourney

casual game wise, leave the ACD at home. that thing isnt fun at all

You can never have enough Firesprays...unless you are playing with >33 points.

He doesn't have VI if he doesn't have a firespray.

Also, you can still play swarm.
