Phantom Swarm

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

Here's a build to cause the enemy to tremble with fear!! Five Phantoms!

And another scary point is that I can actually field it! :)

150 points

Pilots

------

"Whisper” (37) [TIE Phantom (32), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)]

"Echo” (38) [TIE Phantom (30), Rebel Captive (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)]

Sigma Squadron Pilot (25) x 3

Just a quick question: why did you put Rebel Captive on Echo? It seems to me that Echo's modified decloack will have her out of arcs more often than not. I would probably put the Rebel Captive on one of the Sigmas. Lower pilot skill and no ACD means they are likely to be the early primary targets, simply because your opponent is more likely to be able to fire at them.

I think even taking just four Sigma's would be fantastic, if complex, way to fly a 100-point squad.

I think with out ACD, and the lower pilot score, you are just throwing points away on the sigma's. I get that you want a Phantom swarm, but there is a much better use for those points. Like 2 bounty hunters plus some upgrades.

But it'd be hard to have a Phantom swarm with two Bounty Hunters and no Phantoms. ;)

Go for it! I love spam squads. My concern would be that you don't have a lot of hit points, but that's a heck of a lot of attack dice.

Good idea!

I was originally thinking Echo and Whisper would be the end game pieces and was thinking RC would make Echo last longer.

But your idea of RC on one of the Sigma makes more sense as that Sigma would last longer helping Echo and Whisper in the long run.

Chaotic Hazard:

Sure there are "better" ways of building 150pt lists with a couple of Phantoms, but the whole idea is to have a SWARM of Phantoms! :)

How would you fly a phantom swarm? Close to overlap firing arcs or loose to maximise your maneuverability and make it harder for the enemy to get shots on?

6 x Sigma

Obviously. :P

24 attack dice! Haha.

I'd try running the three Sigmas up the middle, starting at about range 1 from each other, V formation (the point of the V toward the Phantom player), and run Echo and Whisper as flankers on either side. Move the Sigmas in slowly, envelop the whole formation on the opponent's squad at once if possible. Just give them no safe place to move and set up overlaps.

I was picturing Echo and Whisper out wide either on one flank or on both flanks depending upon the opponents setup. The three Sigmas would be in a loose formation to go at the opposition and keep its attention!

I would run

Whisper + rebel captive + VI + ACD

4 Sigmas + SPA

So I started playing with alternatives:

Whispers Swarm

"Whisper” (39) [TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)]

Sigma Squadron Pilot (30) [TIE Phantom (25), Rebel Captive (3), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)]

Sigma Squadron Pilot (27) [TIE Phantom (25), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)] x 3

"Echo” (40) [TIE Phantom (30), Rebel Captive (3), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)]

However, I dont care much for Echo as the primary Phantom due to PS.
