Advice needed for finishing off a squadron

By Third Sphere, in X-Wing

Hey X-Wing Forum, I am looking for some advice on how I can finish--off / optimise my current Rebel Squadron.

I've used this build in a few games now, had some really fun games and good success but I always to struggle to use the last few points well.

Here is the build

- HWK-290, Kyle Katarn: Moldy Crow, Blaster Turret, Recon Specialist

- B-WIng, Blue Squadron

- X-WIng, Rookie Pilot

- X-Wing, Rookie Pilot

There are 5 points left for upgrades, your suggestions and opinions would be welcome.

Adv. Sensors on the Blue and R2's for the Rooks, or upgrade to a Dagger and Adv. Sensors if you fight opponents who use Predator often.

Maybe an Engine Upgrade on Kyle... If you can bank enough focus early to not need Rec Spec every turn it could help him survive longer, get a get few extra shots and turn around faster which is a issue for the HWK (one of the worst dials in the game)

You could drop Moldy Crow for HLC on blue and vet instincts on Kyle. This would take some of the heat off Kyle and add early damage potential.

If you have access to r3a2 he is a very fine way to spend a few points. I might also throw a FCS on the blue. Fly him behind the rookies so you're not just making their choice easy.

Tx for the suggestions guys, I kind of use the HWK as a magnet, everybody wants to kill him and it leave my other ships a free hand to focus on who they choose and although the HWK is not super tough I have only lost it once in a game (nr the end, and I ended up winning that)

It just feels like the x-wings need something to give them a boost, I just can't find anything I've been really happy with. the B-wing is fine as it is, never had any problems playing this ship (even a lowly blue pilot with no upgrades)

I was also thinking about swapping out the 2 Y-wings for 2 Y-Wings with Ion Cannons, any thoughts further thoughts or suggestions pls?

this is exactly what I would do

I think you mean swapping out the 2 X-wings for Y's?

I'd say one Y-wing. Get a Gold with R3-A2 and Ion Turret. Zap any Phantom that comes near with the stress and dare him to stay in the fight. Stressed phantoms are super easy to tell where they're going, and its highly likely you'll be able to re-stress him with the Gold. Two Y's with ion is too many. You fight lists with more than 3 ships and all your opponent will have to do is kill the blue or Kyle and your damage will go straight into the gutter.

whops, typo alert! I do indeed mean swapping the X-wings :-)

Key thing to know about R3-A2 usage on a Gold is that people tend to think of the Y as a Range 2 bubble. Don't be afraid to use the lasers at R3 to put on stress, it'll surprise a cpl players at least. And don't be shy about stacking stress on the Gold either. It'll be hard for him to get rid of it, and it might be worth it to just keep piling it on. I've gotten up to 4 stress on him, just find a nice asteroid to orbit and do Hard 2's around it while zapping fools.

Garven sure plays nice with Kyle's Crow. I mean he can take a token from Kyle and when he spends it he can give it back and if he has another and spends it he can give that one as well. It may require having something that you can spend a Focus on but that's potentially three Focus token on Crow in single turn.
